When you operate the inside or outside latch, the door opens a quarter inch or so, then there is a gritty feeling and you have to tug on the outside door handle or push with your shoulder from the inside to get the door to open enough to clear the latch. With the door open about 1 inch then it swings freely.
New door hinges installed. Door striker properly adjusted. Cleaned the latch mechanism, then sprayed triflow everywhere I could. Operating the latch by hand seems to work ok.
I placed masking tape all around the latch opening, then closed/opened the door a bunch of times....no rubbing anywhere.
Is there grit or crud in the latch mechanism, or are they worn out? Neither latch is in all that great of condition. Does someone offer reproduction latches that can be recommended?
