Opinons on Cuda hood emblems
« on: December 09, 2004 - 12:20:27 AM »
OK me and a buddy(excellent body/paint guy)are going to start on my 70 GC on Dec 17th when i have a couple of vacation weeks off.We are going to do complete body/paint and since i have a Cuda hood,i am going to put on my GC,i was wondering which 383 emblems i should put on the hood?I am not going to make this car a cuda clone since its a numbers 383 mag GC but want the Cuda hood on it.Should i put Cuda 383 hood emblems on or 383 MAGNUM hood emblems on it?I am torn between the two but am leaning towards the 383 magnum emblems since this isnt a Cuda and dont want to make it one.Whatcha guys think?

I plan on doing the same thing.  Got a '71 GC 383 but don't want to "label" it as a 'Cuda; just put the 'Cuda doo dads on it (rear valence, gills, hood, etc.).

383 Magnum; that's what I would do.

Moparnut, I'd have to say the 383 Magnum emblems would be what I'd stick on it if that was the case for me.

 I don't get it.  :(
You all will put the 'Cuda valance, gills, hood, etc on it... :-[
But draw the line at a "Cuda 383" emblem ???
Besides , Magnum is Dodge , so it will confuse those who know that info.

Ummm- how bout this, find a car we want to be matching #'s but isn't, get unstamped replacement block, stamp in every correct letter / number except one incorrect letter.
   Then it can Almost be correct and what we want , but we feel OK because there is a semblance of honesty.{ I know maybe overkill comparison }
    Sooo...
it's like putting a pedal dress up kit chrome on a car that didn't come with it, but leaving the trim off the clutch pedal, to be "correct"

I'd just leave the emblem off completely, as it was.

Weren't the motors still labelled as "Magnum" regardless whether it was a Dodge, Plymouth, or Chrysler?  I could be wrong.

The label to me DOES matter.  If someone were to paint a Van Gogh knock off, don't you think it'd be pretty darn weasel-like to also mimic the signature?

Sure, if you put Shaker hoods, 'Cuda valences, Rallye dashes, etc. on a car, you're making it look like a 'Cuda, but to actually label it as such, I've never cared for.  I don't plan on putting R/T emblems on my car when done.  What value does it give other than to pass it off as a knock-off?  It adds nothing to the looks IMHO.

The reason for the 383 emblems is to denote what motor's in the car; that's all.

I dont plan on doing valances, rally guages(my car came with them),or fish gills(my car has the rocker covers).I just dont like the flat hood, thats all I'm changing. My GC is much rarer than a Cuda, only made them for 2 years and only 600 had the 383 magnum,so i wouldnt think of it.I like the emblems and it is my car.WHat did they put on the plymouth's?????Was there no 383 magnum emblem for plymouth????I know there wasnt any 383 super comando emblems??I dont know how someone could get confused, there is no mistaking a barracuda.

I`m not a big fan of clones so even though I modified my car and put some `cuda parts on it I didn`t want `cuda emblems on it so I used the Challenger 340 four barrell emblems instead.I think the Magnum is used for Dodge only but they have the 383 four barell emblems you could use.Any way you do it the vin tells what it really is and like my fender tag reads-

Gotta go with 383 fourbarrel on this one

Magnum is a dodge word like super commando is for Plymouth. Sorry that Magnum sounds better :-\

I see your point though, if you put 383'cuda on there you might as well put hemicuda on there instead

this guy would :rice:

I left mine blank, couldn't lie,  wouldn't be prudent

Magnum is definitely for Dodges.

If you don't want to put Cuda383 on there put on nothing at all, the original hood had nothing.
