Disc brake question
« on: May 19, 2002 - 02:30:53 AM »
I have the original 2 piece brake rotors on my 70 Cuda and nobody makes the 3" wheel studs for them. Will the later unicast rotors swap onto my car without changing the spindles or calipers, or do I have to change other stuff to make them work. I have access to a 73 Duster with disc brakes, but I don't want to change the spindles or calipers if I don't have to.

use a micrometer and measure the spindle were the bearings sit. to see if there the same.  my 72' challenger it called for that rotor, but i measured it and the measurements were the same and the one piece rotor fit like it was made for it. it been on for five years or more and all the hardware worked also.

i'm not sure what the 70' has but i think it should be the same? sorry i don't have a straight answer hope it helps

Well, I'm getting some conflicting answers at Moparchat, so I think I'm gonna do like you suggested Mike. Get out the dial caliper and go to measuring!

Mike! Settle down a little, I haven't retired yet! :D I haven't had time to check them yet. I'll probably measure the spindle on the Cuda tomorrow, but it may be a couple of days before I can check the Duster spindle, I've got the car stored at a friends salvage yard. As soon as I figure it out I'll let ya know.

I believe certain ones are a straight swap but some others have inner bearing differences
mopar action had a great article on disc conversions a while back
I don't know which month (or year) but MR. E(cant spell his last name) is a very knowledgable guy who (unlike other tech guys) returns your emails
good luck
