T/A front height
« on: April 06, 2011 - 07:47:17 AM »
Planning to change my T/A stance back to the original specs... what is the correct front height and where to measure it? From the ground to the front wheel lip in the center? Planning to change the mopar XHD leaf springs in the back and the tires are 235/60/15 in the front and in the back 275/60/15. Is this giving me correct stance also in the back?

Was the front height in T/A different than the other Challengers?

Thanks in advance!

To return to factory spec, you measure the height from the ground to the lower ball joint and the ground to the t-bar socket. The t-bar socket should be something like 1.25-1.5 HIGHER than teeh ball joint. I do not recall the exact spec of this difference, but it is different between teeh car lines (A,B,C,E), nor do I know if the AAR/TA twins had a different ride height than standard E bodies.

The rear of the TA Challenger was higher than the other models to accomodate the low side exhaust.   You will need to take into consideration the difference in stock tire sizes to what is on your car today in order to come up with the perfect heigth.

If you haven't already, I recommend you contact Barry Washington with the challengertaregistry.com and/or his email of: sixpak340@att.net.  Another reference point is the hamtramck-historical.com web site which Barry also coordinates.

The factory spec on front ride height from my 74 FSM is 1 7/8".

The Mopar XHD may not duplicate the rear heght exactly on the T/A, because, like challengermaniac pointed out, the trans am cars had higher ride height springs on the back comapred to other E bodies.

1 7/8 from were to were?  :dunno:

the 1 7/8 would be the difference between the two points in this post brad. point a ground to lower ball joint point b ground to T bar socket. not sure if its center or bottom of but if u go to the same point on both it doesn't matter where u get your measurement from.

Ah thanks that clears it up! Sorry, I missed that post. :banghead:   Where exactly on the ball joint? The center of the ball? bottom of the ball joint? casting line?

They show the bottom of both parts, not to include the grease zerk, if you have one.

Thanks for the info. I also found this SCCA doc from Barry´s web site:

http://www.challengertaregistry.com/photos/scca/6.jpg

Is this only for SCCA racing spec or does this apply the factory set up as well?

Barry can confirm, but I would say with the FIA record number, optional rim and tire size application form, and the text stating that setting of this specific ride height is to used use solely for determining track width, that this is an SCCA technical data sheet and not a factory set up document.
