I don't have any pictures of an engine bay with no wiring but I have seen a few pictures where a modern ignition controler was hidden is some pretty sneaky places.
One place I saw was under the battery tray. You can still see it if you look for it though. The sneakiest place I've seen modern electronics installed is inside the washer bottle. They even painted the inside of the bottle blue so it looked like it was filled with washer fluid.
