Need help finding Rimblow restoration
« on: April 15, 2011 - 12:16:00 AM »
My wife got me a Rimblow steering wheel off of Ebay a few years ago.  It was a "surprise gift".  Now check this out.  I was talking to her one day about wanting one and a few weeks later, she had got this one for me off ebay without me knowing.  As it turns out, she paid about 100 bucks for it.  It looks hammered.  It looks like it came out of a salvage yard that has been there 40 years.  It is however a true Rimblow by part number.  The center is missing and the outer ring needs redone.

Does anyone know a restoration outfit that they would recommend to get this wheel back in shape?

This will be going in my 71 'Cuda when it is presentable.

Thanks for your time guys.

I just had Gary put a new rim blow switch in mine this this past week, since I was near Carlisle.  I had a chance to visit with him, and see his shop.  He showed me a bunch of different steering wheels in process, and two mopar rimblows in particular.  They look very nice :2thumbs:  When I decide to do a full restoration, I'll have no hesitation going back to him. :2thumbs:

Thanks Slotts!!!  Yep, throw my name in the mix too!  :)  I do Rim Blow wheels and pretty much any other style/make of steering wheel as long as it's made from Plastic, Hard Rubber, Bakelite or Real Wood !

If you were at the MATS show this year you saw one of my wheels in the FM3 Charger R/T that won  "Ultimate Stock Mopar". In past years I also did the wheels for several of the other Ultimate Mopar winners at the MATS.

Thanks again and I hope we can work together on your restoration projects.

"plumbeeper" (Dave) did mine. Words can't explain how impressed I was with the finished product. I  even tried to find evidence of any of the 3 original breaks with a magnifying glass and couldn't.

Here are a few more pictures of other steering wheels that were fun to work on.

This Caddy wheel needed a complete rim transplant and a color change plus I added some metal clips to separate the colors on the non stock color scheme.

This Buick wheel had seen better days too! It's face lift helped complete the interior of a classic car design.

Here's another wheel that was fun to work on. Plastic has come a long way since the 50's!  :)
