Door latch - wont stay in full shut position
« on: April 19, 2011 - 03:09:43 PM »
Today I have been prepping/gathering parts so I can FINALLY start hanging sheetmetal on my 72 Cuda.  While testing the door latched (removed from the door), I noticed the driver's side latch isn't catching on anything in the full shut position when pushing with my fingers.  It will catch at the first stop - the first click when you lightly push the door closed but not all the way shut.  I used a little PB Blaster to loosen things up (which it did) but it didn't fix my issue.  As far as I know, these are the original latches and they have been in storage for some time.  I don't recall if this was an issue when I disassembled the doors a couple years ago.  They seem to be in pretty good shape overall.  All other moving parts seem to be operating just fine.

As always, any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Got it working!  The solution...  PATIENCE!  After walking away from it for a while I went back to fumble with it somemore.  The PB Blaster was hard at work in my absence.  The lever that holds the striker in the shut position was stuck.  Now that it's loosened up, it's working great.
