You can. Most of the current will  travel thru the bypass wire, making the amp gauge inaccurate though.

I always leave the original wire, going through the bulkhead connector. Now you'll have 2 ways for voltage to get into the car. The BLACK and the RED wires.

I would like to thank all that contributed to this thread. After reading this I thought, holy crap, those are all the symptoms I have. I checked it out and just about each problem area listed here was a problem on my car. It was like the thread was written just for me.

I had  an alternator tested once they told me it was fine.I replaced it anyway and my electrical issues were gone.I am not saying the alternator is the problem but do not always believe the tester.
