tire sizing

On my Cuda, i got 235/60r15 on the rear and 215/65r15 on the front.. is this a good set-up? Ive read tire sizing many times but i just dont really get it... :-/
someone give me some tire sizing help/tips....

235 is the how tall the tire is, 60 is how wide the tires is, the low the number the wider the tire, R15 is the rim size.  

To me this sounds like a good set up.  The rear tires being wider probly sets it off jsut enough to make it look mean!!!

Hey gang a few more notes on tire sizing...i.e. 235 is the width, 70 is the height (percentage of the width) and 14 is the rim size.  A car with 14 inch rims is best served with a 70 or 75 series tire while most folks will put a 60 series tire on a 15 inch rim.  For historical comparisons...an E series tire has a  present width of 195, an F = 205, G = 215, H = 225, and an L = 235.  You
may have noticed some old stock photos of our beloved E-Bodies with skinny tires on, well, as an example a 318 equipped car came with D's as standard equipment...that is a 185 width tire!  As far as I can glean an AAR 'Cuda came standard with E78-14's up front (195/75/14 in today's lingo!!!) and G78-15 in the rear (that is only a 215/75/15 tire!).  Most Mopar nuts I've come in contact with, (not all, but most) seem to be putting 225 or 235 size tires all around.  As for brand name BF Goodrich Comp TA's and Dunlop GT Qualifiers
are by far the most popular tires I've seen on.  I do hope some real E-Body vets reply to this posting and back it up or point out if they feel I'm wrong on any of this!  All the best...Howlin Mad! >:( >:(

The tires on the AAR Cuda were 70 series, not 78 series. Other than that you're pretty much dead on Howlin!

Come to think of it, those tires might have even been 60 series!

Mr. 392heminut...I stand corrected on my ramblings!  The AAR 'Cuda was shod with E60 x 15's up front and
G60 x 15's in back.  The 70 series tires were on the 383
and 440 while 78 series tires were put on the slant six and 318.  As for the Hemi's, they had E60's all around as
standard equipment...F60's with disc brakes.

The first # is the width in millimeters.
Second # is the sidewall height as a percentage of the tread width (also in millimeters).
Third # is wheel diameter in inches.

Here is how you calculate tire height (result is in inches)...

(2 x (sidewall height / 100) x (tire width / 25.4)) + wheel diameter

A 235/60x15 is 26.1" tall with 9.25" of tread.
A 215/65x15 is 26.0" tall with 8.46" of tread.

I wouldn't think so....

I used to ride on 295/50/15 on 8.5 inch centerlines in the back and 235/60/15 on 7 inch centerlines in the front

I never had any problems with rubbing or anything...and I was running a stock rear suspension with only an adjustable pinion snubber....
