73 Cuda,"painless"turn signal wires..please Hellllpppp!
« on: April 24, 2011 - 02:36:13 PM »
Hi,
I have a 73 4 speed plymouth Cuda and am installing painless 10127 and have to many wires at the turn signal section I have 2 #926 and 2ea 918,925 are they extra? do I just coil up the extra wires? also do I need to hook up a ground to my horn? how do I tell, I sure could use a more detailed set of instructions as I do not have the original harness, how many relays do I need and how are they wired? what relay part numbers should I buy?

thank you for your help as I really need it.

Ken

Give us a picture of the wiring diagram for those wires so we can help.  You need a relay for the horn and the head lights too.

You should have two ends of the 926, 925.  One is routed to the front lights and the other goes to the steering column.  Have you verified that you routed the one end of the 926 and 925 to the front already?  The horn doesn't need a separate ground.

See the other thread in this same section about adding relays to the headlights which is a good idea.

Thanks Travis and Shelbydog, here is my painfull instructions http://www.painlesswiring.com/Manuals/10127.pdf
I do have a 926 and 925 in the front section but its a green wire with a stripe and then there is two of them in the dash section, and I just dont get it. the instructions to me are not very helpfull, as I do not have any original harness to look at, thanks for the help guys, I don't want to turn the key and see smoke, or have the horn sound when I hit the turn signal ,that would be kinda embarrasing :) again, Thanks for your help.

If you have a spare 925 and 926, they can go to left and right signal-on indicators for your dash board.

Would the extras possibly be for fender mounted indicators which not all cars had- just a generic harness inclusion? :2cents:

thanks for the replies guys, as I have tried painless direct and so far no response, but it looks like I already have 937 and 938 for the indicators in the dash, see the link http://www.painlesswiring.com/Manuals/10127.pdf  is there a chance it could be extra? like if the hazard switch was seperate on a diffrent make?....man I don't know, does anyone have the key to help me unlock these painless instructions, I just don't get them, is there a decoder? or a simple way to look at them, because if they just told me"one end of wire 926 goes to lft front turn signal and the other goes to the turn signal switch wirre for lft front" I would have it but there are two 926 wires at the dash area and a 926 out front at the turn signal.

again, thank you for the help

Probably for turn signal indicators that you would put on your mirrors like the new cars have.  You're putting too much thought into these spare wires. Put some butt crimps on them to protect the ends and move on already.

OK Shelbydogg, I read ya, my son said the same thing, then I thought "oh s#$t what if we need them or what if I choose unwisely, we will be pulling the dash back out along with my hair" but I guess the only way to finish the freakin thing is to plow forward and use my best guesses as we go and finish the wiring and hope it all works, but when it doesn’t will you come fix it for me, Shelbydog?

LOL, Uh.... No, But I'll tell you how to fix it.

Before I put my dash in, I had everything wired up to it, in my basement, then put power to it. I was able to test everithing including the blinkers, stereo, and taillights.  Either do it from the back on the bench or do it on your back in the car. Which would you choose?
