Upper Control Arm Bushing Sleeves
« on: January 04, 2002 - 08:01:45 PM »
Hello. I an currently restoring my 72 Challenger I found in Eugene, Oregon last Februry. The car is nothing special, but it is a decent E-body, so I went for it. The front drum brakes were shot, so I decided to add discs. While I was under there, I decided to rebuild the entire front end, which brings me to my current delimma. I had the old upper ball joints and control arm bushings removed by my local machine shop. In doing so, the outer control arm bushing sleeves were "destroyed" when they were pressed out. I find this difficult to believe, but the point is they are gone now. I need a set for the new poly bushings I plan to install. So, do any of you have, or know where I can get a set of outer control arm bushing sleeves for my 72 E? Looking forward to exchanging info! Thanks for your help! Steve K ???

the sleeved were busted because the upper control arm ball joints screw into the upper control arm.  they are not press out ball joints.

option 1 - find replacement sleeves (don't know if they're even available)

option 2 - find new upper control arms for an e-body (hard to find and expensive)

option 3 - be a demanding customer and required the shop to replace what they ruined.  because these upper balljoints are screw in, they should have been screwed out.  because the shop didn't know, or failed to check, you could try to hold them responsible

sorry, this happened...sucks big-time

if i understand you correctly. your not talking about the upper ball joint( which is threaded) your talking about the two inner upper control arm bushings? right? is so and they are ruined, they are not expensive. www.p-s-t.com has a good online catalog. If this is the problem i  think i have new set of four in the garage , in my front end bins.

Hi Steve, I took out and replaced mine and they where a real bag-o-dirt to do- but not impossiable.Used as little heat as possiable so as to not warp the arms metal.

check PST as dark horse said and they have replacements- not exactly as the factory but probely better.
