    275/50-15 is effectively a 26" tire as opposed to the 60 series....does not have the sidewall but can be a little wider.   It does not bite as well as the 60 series as it has less flex in the sidewall and is a little shorter footprint.   If you are not making a lot of power at lower rpm, it is a good street choice.

    275/50 is a common drag tire size, but a not a very common street tire size. I wouldn't recommend going there.

    200 rpm difference for a 275/60 isn't that much. It may allow you to add 3-5 mph at the same rpm speed. But, I'd receommend you check Summit and see what they list for 255/60 or 245/60. I think that Mickey Thompson offers this in ther ST line, which is actually a better tire than BFG and may be in stock at Summit.

    My dilema lies up front:

    What do you think of 215/65r15 or 60r15 up front?

    In comparison to 225 since it is not available right now. Im gonna get some more life out of my rear tires for financial purposes.

    seems small for a big block up front.  Depends if you want handling, or you just want the look

    215 shoud work fine, if I did it over again, I would go with a 215/65-15 and a 275/60-15. 

    I have 15x7 with 235/60-15s up front now, too wide for what Im looking to do now.  On the back 15x8 with 275/60-15.  Good luck with what ever you decide.

    Hey Don

    Would you clarify what you are trying to do now to make you feel like the 235/60/15 up front is too big? You are running the combo I am considering....

    Thanks...seems about the same as other numbers I have found....

    Went to a cruise last evening for a bit and there was a 70s monte carlo with the 275/60/15 on them and they do seem big, and thats a big car.......there was a 68 camaro with the 255/60/15 and they seemed small although bigger than my 235s.......LOL

    I like the 275's on the rear...but the 225's up front just look funny, IMO.  I did not want to wait for the 235's and went with the 225's and they just do not look right.  If I could do it all over again, I would get the 235's.

    I think he is referring to going 1320 feet as fast as possible and not as concerned about fast cornering.

    The best all around tire size for an e-body is P235/60R15's on the front on a 7"rim with 4" backspacing and P255/60R15's on the back with an 8" rim with 4 1/4 to 4 1/2" backspacing. You can go as wide as a P275/60R15 on the back with no modification as long as the rear differential is centered. P245's on the front start to rub and P295's on the back can tend to rub sometimes on some cars.
    I've owned dozens of e-bodies and when going with stock rims, this is the setup I've used almost every time. B-bodies are a little more forgiving.
    On my Superbird I went with P245/60R15's all of the way around on 8" rims and they fit and look fine.

    I like the set of Crager SS mags 8"x15" with a 5"BS 235-60 up front and 275-60 on the rear. This on my 72 Cuda it is B-5 with a white 440 hockey stripe . But I would still like to go wider on the rear. I might have to add a 4 link to get it to hook up then I would just tub it too. And add a narrowed diff and wider tires should help. And it will look good too. :bigsmile:
