Tail lights
« on: May 05, 2011 - 11:37:36 AM »
I am having tail light problems sometime they work sometime they don't. I have figured out when I turn the left turn signal on the tail lights will go out for a while then come back on. The brake lights work fine. Any ideas

First check the connections for corrosion at the tail light bulb and socket.  The socket itself provides a ground for the system so make sure that is clean.  Check the wiring at the bulkhead (on the fire wall) to see if there is a loose connection with a wire.  It sounds like a grounding issue and they are always fun to figure out.  Good luck.

I hope it isn't your turn signal switch. The turn signals share the same filament as the tail lights. Maybe there is a short somewhere in the switch. What are your front parking lights doing while this is going on?

The big problem with replacing the switch is getting the crush can off if it has never been removed before. You will definitely need a steering wheel puller.   :P
