the one we got when disassembled had tapered cylinder walls & over .008 piston wall clearance , no way the rings could seal it

Wouldn't it show from the start then? Why after 250 miles? I spent months on the shortblock so I'm sure about clearences, ringgaps
and openingpositions, the only thing concerning the shortblock I can't stand for is the machinework.

I also have to admit I didn't check if the intake aligned with the heads, stupid thinking that eddyheads and intake would match like a glove.

I second the idea that you have a sucking oil situation.  Pull the intake and check the runners for oil.

Thanks Bigs, apreciate it. Last year the new tranny after 15 miles and now this. The worst thing is that it scares me to build my Hemi for the challyproject, I'm loosing selfconfidence here.

Maybe, but do yourself a favor and do the compression test first. Saves the aggravation of tearing it all back apart again
if you don't find anything wrong with the intake.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

:iagree:  Start with the easy stuff that you can do while it's still together.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I only use one paper gasket below the intake pan on the head surface , using the one above makes it too hard to get the intake on

Have you checked that it isn't sucking all that oil through the PVC system? Do you have a baffle on the valve cover that has the PVC valve? I kind of understood that the problems started soon after the pvc was installed?

Indeed it started just after installing a PCV valve and no, my valvecovers don't have any baffleplates.

The PCV hose would be coated in oil as well.

I would plug the PCV and drive it for about 50 miles the check the plugs again and see what they look like. We had one years ago that we had to put a 3/8" tube with a 1/4" hole inside in the middle of the PCV hose. That way it could not suck as much to keep it from burning oil. You might try that to see if it help you. Some engines take longer to break in too.

I was running a Mr. Gasket PCV and just pulled it off.  The filter element inside traveled all the way through the hose to the inlet of the intake and was packed in there.  I had recently had oil start pushing out around the valley plate.  I think the clogged hose was probably part of the cause of the leak?
