71 CHALLENGER SURVIVOR ANYBODY KNOW THIS CAR?
« on: May 11, 2011 - 12:11:54 PM »
Hi, I checked this car out for a friend and when I saw it I couldn't help but wonder why it hasn't been sold yet? I'm not as well versed on E body Mopars as I am more of the B Body persuasion but this appears to be the real deal.......25K miles and he has all the originalpaper work, 3 broadcast sheets, hoses, Belts, battery that were on it new. 2 owner car and all docs bought from original owners estate who he knew. The owner either is very good at telling a  story or is on the up & up, doesn't explain why the car has been for sale with no takers the last few years? It is full of Z-bart which the original owner had applied or a good cover up??? Any info is greatly appreciated! THANKS! Steve

You never mentioned the price. If it's a million dollars, I can see why it hasn't sold yet,

Hi Don, if it is a true survivor which it appears it is, how do you price it? I will say the price is below 50K and should have sold as soon as listed, makes me think something funny is going on, if not and other opinions agree with me, it may have a new home. What is it worth??

The A/C water valve and heater hoses do not appear to be original. The valve is wrong and the hoses look way too clean/crisp.

Yes the valve and hoses and belts were all changed and are stored with the car. Is the interior correct? Is the Z Bart covering up something? THANKS!

Interior looks OK to me. We don't have any undercarriage pics, so can't say about the Zeibart.  :dunno:

Wow, there's a lot of undercoting on the frame rails, but maybe that's what the original owner asked for.

The brake booster is a 70 piece, 71's are a different shape and are yellow zinc plated. Not sure about that master cylinder, either.

 :iagree:

I`d swear I ve seen that car before on here, a few years ago.  looks great  :2thumbs:
doesn`t look anything like the factory coating on my car...  There is a lot of rust underneath... not saying there`s rot, but rust keeps growing when covered.

checked on mymopar the vin and codes correct.
it is a 383 2 bl single exhaust.
the undercoating above the axle is shiny.
Pull the rear seat, lift the carpet  check the floor.
Car could have been kept in a humid garage no heat.....for the rust..
:iagree: on the power brake booster,
If this car is under 50th buy it.....offer him 42th..............
Have them idle the car for 5 plus minutes and then rev engine to look at exhaust for any smoke.
Intake manifold pic at choke base looks excessive heat.
check at exhaust manifold for heat riser if it is stuck.

I thought all the 383/440s were painted Hemi orange?  I know this is a '71, but my '70 Cuda with a 383 Magnum 4v, was Hemi orange.  :clueless:

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

No they were not all orange. The blue is correct for a 383 2 bl.
