70 340 block. :/
« on: May 13, 2011 - 10:36:22 PM »
Found a 70 340 for sale here locally, bare block thirty over with pistons...was gonna pick it up then went and saw it, #8 cylinder at the bottom has a nice sized chunk out of it, looks like at one time it lost a rod, no visible crack, and it looks like this happend before the last bore, no rough edges or anythings...is it still worth buying or should I just let it slide, guy said I could have it for a hundred bucks....

I'd see if you can get a guy from a local machine shop to come down and look at it with you, see if it is usable. Give him $20 for his time or something like that.

Go for it, worse case you can sleeve that cylinder for $80-$100.

For whatever reason the 340's bring more $$$.  You could flip it and make some money.
