72 to 71 transformation/ Tropical fish
« on: May 14, 2011 - 10:21:15 AM »
I've had my 72 Cuda for about a year and I'm finally going to start on the restoration after having loads of fun leaving little black marks all over town. As I've said before I'm going to clone it into a 71 Cuda. This is mostly due to availability of parts in Puerto Rico. I was originally going to just put a Shaker on the 72 and patch all the panels I had, but leave it looking like a 72 except for the grille and the Shaker. The guy I found with a Shaker hood down here had tried to become a seller for AMD and has a stockpile of 70-71 sheet metal and tomorrow I'm going to take it all off his hands. I've seen the hood, full quarters and tail panel, and apparently he has trunk floor, deck lid and full floors for it as well but I haven't confirmed those parts yet. I'll post pics of the Cuda before I start, along with pics of all my parts stacked nicely in the dining room (Now being referred to as the parts storage area) I also plan on posting pics every step of the way.

Picked up a van load of parts today. Shaker hood, left and right full quarters, full floor, full trunk floor, trunk extensions, tail panel, trunk filler, and the piece that goes between the quarter and the trunk hole. It cost me a lot less than I thought it would, so I have a little extra to play with. I think I might get my six pack carbs next. I'll get pics tomorrow, but I unloaded the van by myself and I'm beat. I also bought all the parts for a kick a$$ gaming computer today so I had to unload that too

Just ordered headlight buckets and something else last night. I can't remember what the other stuff is though. Might have been side marker light kits but I guess it will be a surprise when it gets here. I don't even remember anymore what I have and what I need.

Here's a pic of the car shortly after I got it.

And what it looks like now

I just heard from EbodyProducts and my parts from there will be on their way soon.
My Shaker system from Roseville should be here next week or so.
Things are starting to come together now. I pick up the Go Wing and other assorted bits on Sunday and once it's inventoried and I cherry pick the parts I'm keeping I'll be posting the parts that will work on Cuda/Challenger here and the Charger only bits on one of the Charger forums.

Still waiting on parts. I'm making a trip tomorrow to get an estimate from the Mopar guru. He told me that if I wanted I can be there to help with some of the work. Since I'm interested in how everything goes together I'm thinking of taking him up on that for at least one day a week. He's working on a 67 Barracuda right now and he has pics of everything he's ever done. When he's done with the 67 he said he can get my car in right away. I'm thinking that as long as I'm happy with his previous work then I'm going to let him tackle it no matter the cost.

Think this over real good before you make this decision.  Price is very important and I've seen people make many mistake when going down this road.  Get it ALL in writing first.

as long as I'm happy with his previous work I'm going to let him tackle it no matter the cost.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I've spoke to a lot of people down here that have had stuff done and this guy usually has a waiting list. Because of the economy he's been a little slow lately. I've seen 2 Cuda's that he's done, one doing patch work and the other doing full panel replacement and they both looked great. I also saw a few other Mopar things he's done and I've never heard any complaints other than people have to wait to gets their cars in.
