I was inspired by the TA that sold on Mecum and want to see what an SE/RT would look like with that combo.  Thanks  Matt

I remember way back when I was in college in the early 80's Ron Adair listed a black hemi Challenger RT/SE for sale.  I was interested but he didn't list a price, and he was sort of a wheeler dealer, so I never called about it.
I have a picture of it at home I will scan and post if I remember later.
I always wondered what happened to that car.
And there was a B5 N96 hemi Challenger in WI around the same time that I went up to look at, I was driving a triple black '79 Bronco, and when I got to the guys house to look at the car, he came out and took a look at my Ferd and said "wow, this is nice, maybe we can trade?" and I said no.  I ended up making an offer on the car but he got a higher offer from someone else.
Never have ended up owning a hemi Challenger, and will probably always regret not calling about that black RT/SE or offering to trade the 4x4 for that blue one. :pullinghair:

Thanks I'm interested to see what it looks like. I saw the 70 TA at Mecum in person but the owner was around so I didn't sick around and drool too long. But when I got home and watched it cross the stage I was floored   :droolingbounce:  Beautiful car!

Yeah I'd be pulling my hair out too! Thanks again.  Matt

The T/A was nice but not 112K+another 6K or so buyers premium nice!  I was interested in that car when it was at the St Charles IL Mecum auction last fall.  Sharp car, but NOM, incorrect wheels, incorrect wheelwell moldings and some other odds and ends.  It bid up to 78K there and didn't hit reserve.  If it had been any other color but black it would have been a 60K car tops.  In fact didn't a FJ5 4 speed T/A sell for 60K at mecum last weekend?
Coolest black T/A I've seen is one with a white top and white interior that was from my area and restored by Blue Star restorations.  That was a unique car for sure! There is also a triple black Mr Norms T/A over in MI, I haven't seen it in person but hope to someday.  I think Daytona might have owned that one at some point?   Sometimes I wonder how people let certain cars get away, I would rather have that black T/A than all his SRT8 and Hurst Challengers combined!  :2cents:

I agree the price was way out of the ballpark. Sharp car though. I don't recall the sublime TA. Didn't see it on DVR or at the show  :dunno:
The black TA w/ white top and interior sounds very cool. Here's a pic of an RT w/ same combo.   Matt

Very nice, guess as soon as they got it they threw it on a trailer and were gone. Thanks for the link.  Matt

The car is not mine.  The one I have is an R/T.  I bought it from the original owner.  They always thought they bought a R/T S/E.  It is what they wanted.  What happened is they came into the dealer and saw the R/T.  It had the optional moulding package on it.  It had the salt and pepper interior. They told the dealer they wanted a black R/T S/E just like the R/T.  The dealer added the S/E window, etc. and sold the car to them as an R/T S/E.  New it looked identical to the one in the second pic.  Now if I could only find the time to redo mine.  I have the original motor and trans for the car.  It has a little more than 70,000 miles on it.  Unfortunatly the low miles came at a sacrifice.  The car was allowed to sit for many years in a backyard.

Wow kinda surprises me that the dealer could install the "formal" window. I can't see a dealer doing that now. Cool story thanks and I hope you can get to yours soon.  Matt

That is the story I was given with the car.  All that the dealer had to do was change the rear window, the vinyl top, the headliner and emblems.  It had the moulding package and a vinyl top already.  It does not have the SE vinyl top mouldings. They left the standard ones.  They changed the door panels to SE panels.  The rear panels were left alone.  They do not have ashtrays.

Did they put in the overhead console?   Matt

Yes, they did add the console and wiring.  Odd things were done to sell muscle cars back then. Superbirds has their noses and wings removed and replaced with stock parts to sell them.  I would suspect that dealers would do things today, in this market, to move a car.
