I just cant get the shifter to work right? Whenthe cable is adjusted either way from underneath the car it either wont go into park or adjusted the other way wont go into first??

Yup
Cable shifters are designed for GM & Furd , go figure they both have equal spacing between gears , the Mopar has a longer distance between park & reverse so the shifter needs to be Designed for Mopar , the only cable shifter that does this that Iam aware  of is the Turbo Action Cheetah shifter

I don't mean to hyjack this thread but I was gonna ask . . . since I have no shifter for the convert yet . . . what ya'll thought about which shifter to use??  CP did you just answer that??  Is that the only choice??  All help is always appreciated!!  :grinyes:  :grinyes:  :grinyes:

This is what I found on the Cheetah:

Fits 1966-Up Torqueflite and Torque-Command 727,904,998 & 999. The Chrysler's unique feature is the rear entry of the cable to the transmission, no starter or header problems. The cable exits shifter towards engine. Enters transmission from the rear.  All necessary hardware included and easy installation. Special Note: Park/ Neutral Start Switch fits transmission, not shifter. Gating designed specifically for the Torqueflite gear selection. 
Part #70001B CHEETAH SCS SHIFTER with Black Gate Plate, Control Switch and Park/Neutral Start Switch (PRN321 / PRN123). 

Part #70011  CHEETAH SCS SHIFTER with Black Gate Plate, Control Switch and Park/Neutral Start Switch. Designed for Reverse Pattern Only (PRN123) with dual shift air shifter capabilities. 


Which one of the patterns is standard??  PRN321 or PRN123  ??  How do I know which pattern I have??

P-R-N-D-2-1 Is stock or forward pattern and P-R-N-1-2-3 is reverse.

Do you have to go aftermarket? Why not stick with the slap-stik set up? Works just as good and no other brands will be using that shifter, unlike all the drag and brand x cars lined up with B&M shifters and TCI slammers. Just a thought. You can always get the tilt grip and keep it all MoPar.  8) If I was going for a comp shifter I would get the Cheetah haven't heard anything bad about them, that or Hurst.

NZ I have none of the brackets or parts for a mopar setup!!  I would have to go look to see what piece of sh!t came with the car!! I guess it did its job from Florida to Michigan!  Definitely need a shifter or I'm going no where!!  :ack:  :grinyes:  :grinyes:  :grinyes:

I think I still have the section of a floor with all the slap stick stuff on it, unless my dad through it out.

i had a B&M in my dakota with the 727 and i used the B&M cable...had 2 adjustments on it..one with the 2 big nuts (for mounting) and then one where it connected to the linkage on the tranny i had to play with it toget it to work but it worked great....which cable are you running...??

the cable that came with the megashifter....how did you adjust it...with the 2  nuts and the linkage piece....i understand what you r saying....just cant figure out adjustment?

i don't remember to tell you the truth...its been at least 2 years since i done it..which way is the cable running....is the 2 nuts by the bell housing or the tail shaft...mine was mounted by the bell housing and ran down....but i don't remember how i adjusted it for sure..and i don't have the truck anymore..sorry..

   I know its hard to believe, it happens!! About 20 years ago my father-in-law took to the
dump my unused BFG spacesaver spare wheel/tire combo and mint bumper jack for my
Cuda becuz I was stupid enough to store my stuff in his barn while I started disassembly of
my fish. He claimed he thought it was from his 73 Charger he used to have. No ask, just heave!! :banghead: Dang it, my blood pressure is rising again just thinking about it! :stomp:
Went to that dump a week or so later but it was gone or buried.  :burn: :burn: :burn:
