I am a newbie and so after reading this post, I am now initiated.

It was enjoyable reading the facts and the knowledge that everyon has regarding mopars.

The question I have, is
1. Why do all mopar fanatics run up to you car and look first at the VIN?
2. Then if something doesnt match, or its not number matching, they develop an attitude?

To answer question #1... It's probably to see if your car is an original Hemi or 6-Pack car. I can't answer question #2... and you better not look at my VIN either.  :nono:  My car is most definitely NOT all original.

1. It's easy to look at a VIN and tell if the car is a real 6BBL or HEMI  ect

2. I don't know but I never met a Chebbie guy or Ricer with and attitude    :lol2:

Seriously. In my experience it's the flippers, posers and the wannabees that have the attitude trying to get a deal. They basicly just read the the letter R means HEMI in a book and if you have a letter G in your VIN you have to give away your car to them for cheap.
The REAL MOPAR owners, even the ones with million dollar HEMI verts for example are usually very cool...

I always check a VIN# myself to see if a car is real or not. The other reason seeing as I know most of the codes is looking at the fender tag and seeing how the car was optioned like when new  and seeing what it looks like now. I always enjoy seeing oddball combinations of options and colors.

The attitude, I don't know. If a car is trying to get passed of as an original I could understand it, otherwise :dunno:

Sitting in front of the grocery store in my Challenger last night waiting on my wife.
Guy walks up and first words out of his mouth..."is it numbers matching?"

I said "why do you ask?"...

He didn't have an answer...try it.

The question is kinda like asking right out of the gate...
what's it worth?
how much money do you make?

A First question like that from a stranger is kinda rude unless you're selling the car.

I like it when the first and only question out of  their mouth is...

"How much do YOU think it's worth?"

My answer is always
 :clueless:   :dunno:

They then go on telling me about my car how round taillights aren't worth it and how I should lose the bumpers and change the grille to a 1971.....

Just look at it this way:

You were not the first (I also did it) and you will not be the last to get initiated.   :2thumbs:

When I look at a VIN I'm wondering if its really something original.  But if the car looks amazing enough, who cares?!  My 440 Magnum car originally came with a slant six :roflsmiley:  But minus the rallye gauges, shes not different from the real deal anymore

I guess I'm innitiated as well. I'f that guy doesn't have BURPIN strung up somewhere, as soon as he comes up for air, we should hang him with this thread. Next time I smell this kind of thing coming, I'll at least have a snack and a drink to keep my tummy satisfied. Good thread though, kept my going. I'm just not sure why I didn't look at the last page like I do with certain book's. :cheers:Pat
