D O D G E letters
« on: May 27, 2011 - 02:30:06 PM »
Has anyone tried the reproduction DODGE letters for the hood and/or tail panels?  I've heard the pins aren't in the right places.  NOS ones are out of my price range.

Has anyone had luck in cleaning up the origonal ones?  I have some spares that I tried to lightly sand to get the brushed finish but broke through the chrome pretty easily.

Did the hood letters have a black painted border origonally or was the whole thing just chrome?

I purchased reproduction D O D G E letters from Year One for my rallye hood to replace my pitted originals. They fit perfectly, exactly as my originals. I now need to order replacements for the rear panel.

I had my DODGE letters rechromed and yes, they have a black border.  I've not seen the repro ones.  PK

My tail panel letters fit fine, were on backorder for a while when I ordered them a few/five years ago.

The issue I heard was with the rear letters.  I wonder if the ones available on E-bay are the same ones Year One used to sell?  I may have to just buy them and hope for the best.

I'm sure rechroming the origonal ones won't be cheap.  I just sent off the origonal antenna bezel to be rechromed since the reproduction one didn't fit.  It's costing me $50 just for that piece.

Thanks everyone...I appreciate the help!

Do you know what company you bought them from?  You can PM me their name if you know it.  Just to be clear, I need the letters that were on the 72-74's.  I see you have a 1970 in your sig pic.  THanks

I'm pretty sure I saw some of these for sale at a show last year. You might put the word out for members to be on the lookout for you.

BTW My '73 had no black front or rear.

I looked at my origonals and didn't see any black either.  The only fronts on E-bay are the ones with the black border.  A couple companies are selling the rears for around $70.  The NOS ones are listed at $199. :eek2:

Check with Dave at Roseville or Dale's Cuda Shop. Both are solid sellers with good prices.

I don't believe I've ever seen black on hood letters of any year. None on the 72-4 tail letters, either.

It looks like Herb's Parts sells both the front and rear letters.  They are at the Nat's every year so I'll look at them there.

I'll bring my origonals to compare them.  I could make a template of the hood/tail panel holes to bring along as well.

One company on E-bay says the D's are different.  They list separate part #s for the outer and inner D's.  Both of my origonal ones are the same though.  THey look identical and they fit in either space.

I think I have one or two extra D's but they aren't going to be in perfect shape.
