oh oh!

Hey Beck,
This build is spectacular and you've been doing excellent work.  Very inspiring.

Would you post some more pics of the outer wheelhouse mod, and fill us in about exactly how you did it?

Thanks,

Joey

Hey guys,
I did the outer wheel house mod before I cut the quarters off, back when I wasn't planning on taking the car project as far as I am now.

The car was on the rotisserie, and I just cut a hemispherical section out, leaving an edge to weld to all the way around.
I made cardboard templates for the two pieces on each side that replaced the old stamped section, then replicated them in sheet metal.
I tacked the two bits together and to the car, then cut the tack welds that attached the joined pieces to the wheelhouse.
Welded the two bits together fully, cleaned up the weld, then welded them into the car.

My car used to rub the rear tires in that spot, and there is plenty of room now.

Cheers!

Some of the latest work:

Test fit the motor and drivetrain to weld in guides for the header flanges, so I can fab the exhaust with the body on the rotisserie.

I raised the angle of the drivetrain a bit more than this photo, to get some extra ground clearance.

3.5" 304 stainless, for the dump pipes straight back from the 3.5" header collectors.

X-pipe work.

It's going well, but damn it's slow sometimes when you've never done this stuff before!

Cheers guys!

Brad, I do plan on electric cutouts and side exit pipes eventually, but initially I'll be using removable bolt on caps.
I'll be making two sets of caps, one set with an internal guide to flow the exhaust gas smoothly into the 3" x-pipe.
Then I can test the two, to see the effect the normal caps have on performance.
I'm guessing there will be an increase in back pressure and a drop in flow when the plain caps are on, due to the turbulent flow
caused by the dump pipe design.

In case anyone is wondering, I've designed the dump pipes to effectively be like open headers.
Nothing sounds like open headers, and normal dump pipes with a Y design don't have the same noise and presence.
