I'm in the process of putting my driver's side quarter on.  I see you applied a sealer on the inside edge of the wheel lip.  What did you use there?  Seam sealer?  Also, how was the fit of the quarter to the door?  Mines is being a pain.  If I push in to line up the center body line, it pushes the edge above or below out past the door.  Nice work by the way.

Hey Edison,
that's 3M panel bond adhesive.
I made a lip that fit flush against the flat side of the quarter, along the wheel opening, so I could glue the quarter on there.
This allowed me to avoid welding, and also to easily roll the wheel lip as it's only one layer of steel thick.
Worked out great.

The fit of the quarters to the doors was pretty good, but not perfect. The gap is mostly even, closing up a little in the middle, and at the top.
No major issues with them matching the body lines though.

Here's my plan for the initial (and temporary) look of the car:

Although the current look, with the black rear and grey sides looks pretty damn tough! I'd love to be able to drive it around like that for a while.

Cheers!

LOL...thats funny!

Do you really think they are only starting to cring now?  I bet most purists cringed on page one of this build and have now abandoned all hope!!!

Awesome work as usual!

Nice! I just rolled my fenders but had to do it the old fashioned way.  Did you weigh the trunk/hinges before and after the lightening?  A friend of mine that road races an old muscle car cut out all the bracing of his trunk and its a wet noodle.  It still sits flat, so you only notice it when you open it.  He also cut out all the bracing in his doors and added a simple aluminum diagonal brace.  That saved some serious weight.  Good stuff Aaron!

I did try and weigh them before and after, but the only scales I had access to (hand help digital travel thing) weren't consistent enough to get accurate measurements from. It probably saved around a couple kilos. Ha ha, lot of work for not a lot of weight! It was kinda fun to do though, and I like the look. Every bit counts though right? Ha ha. It's hardly a 'save weight at all costs' build though.

The flimsy and rough as hell 'race weight' fiberglass fenders and hood though, now those save some weight.
That's one of the next jobs, getting them to fit nice (well, nice enough) and creating some alloy bracing for the fenders.

Cheers!

Nice work.  The trunk key is typically round head while the ignition key is the pentastar.  Show us how you relocated the trunk lock rod on the inside.

Yeah my car came with a round head key too, but it didn't fit anything. The pentastar key fits everything fine, which I prefer.

I just shortened and re-bend the rod, and made a new tab arm for the back of the key lock. I'll post a photo but it doesn't really show much.

Cheers

Did the fender roller work well ?, some have complained about the cheapness of the steel , the main screw strips out, just wondering I want to purchase one and would like to know how well it worked  :2thumbs:

I borrowed the wheel lip roller from a local hot rod shop. They had modified/fixed it as apparently it was low quality. Probably the same issues others have had with them. Their fixed up version worked well for me.
