1972 Challenger original export model in the Netherlands
« on: May 29, 2011 - 05:17:45 PM »
Hi all,

Stumbled upon a forum thread about a Barracuda export model; wanted to share some info on my Challenger as it's also an export car.
VIN: JH23 H2B 132175. Fender tag has the "I" code for international export. Also has the "Dodge Made in the USA" and AMAG fender plates.

Here's the short story... The car was scheduled for Hamtramck production in August 1972. A few months later the car was transported and imported into Switzerland and final-assembled by Automontage Schinznach AG, Lauf no. 60462. It was sold to a Swiss customer (first registration 01-01-1973). Later it was bought and exported by a Dutch guy, who had it professionally restored, supposedly around 1998. The car was hardly driven and then sold, apparently as inheritance item when the owner died, to a car trader who put it on display in his showroom and ran it occasionally. When I bought it, the original km/h odometer showed less than 8,000 km.

The car has fully matching numbers and is as good as stock and original. Minor deviations are the engine color (too greenish-blue, but at least it has been treated and it performs fine), a modern audio system and 3-point seat belts. The Rallye instruments looked almost new when I took the panel out to have the small gauges repaired (faulty voltage regulator, of course). When restoring the interior, I found the broadcast sheet under the rear bench. Have made everything function in good order and keep it as close to original as possible. It's a real time machine and has never let me down in the 19 months that I've been owning it.

See pics attached.

Anyone who wants to know more or has more information about the car, feel free!

Mark

Is this the one that was for sale at Nico Alblas for several years?

I have bought it at Alblas yes, over 1.5 years ago, so could be the car you mentioned. Has been there (owned by him personally but seldomly taken outside) for a few years but he's sold more Challengers and other US cars. One of his people owns a Chally convertible, BTW.

How many export/Euro-spec cars are supposed to be in existence nowadays? Guesstimate?

@66PaleRider:
Impressive car you have! Didn't know Mark sold his 'vert. Must have gotten an attractive offering...

He hardly used it anymore, so it was time to let it go.
Back in 2004 we drove to the German Mopar meeting with his 'vert (mine was in restoration at that time).
That was a fun drive. :burnout:
But the German autobahn can be fun with a hard top as well  :naughty:
