Dont mind me I just gottta vent!
« on: May 30, 2011 - 10:22:20 PM »
 :banghead:

As some of you know I'm off to a slow start this year. Rotator surg and the fact that weather has been ablsolute $hit! Ok so todays gonna be a nice day. 80's and sunny, a perfect day to go for a romp! I'm out in the garage early trying to tie up loose ends from last season.
Swapped out oil sender (again) gauge still reads really high. Could my gauge be bad??? Is there a way to test it...  :banghead:

Swapped out voltage reg (again) thought I had this problem fixed guess not! Constantly reads on the second line on the charge side, but not on initial start up. Gotta drive her for a few mins. Wires look good (harness was updated at one point in time). Really good ground, dielectric grease on contacts.  :banghead:

Played with the secondary throtle plates (again) have had a bog issure a hard launch. Found out the secondarys were all the way closed. Got that as good as its gonna be - its better (I belive this carb wasn't set right the day I bought her). Float adj good /pump shot good. Jets????  :banghead:

Ok so its noonish we are gona cruz! I will deal with the crap later!  We take a ride to go find a Charger I've held title on since 04. Stop a a pub for a break. End up talking with a guy who's got a 71 or 2 440 Charger there. We talk MOPARS, fire up to listen to each others rides go back in for a brew, all good.

On the way back home as i let off the gas for a stop sign the wife says, you got a lifter going bad??  WHAT???????? Now I'm a little hard of hearing and NIKKI"S a little loud.... But sure as Shucks, I had to "tune in" but as you let off of the gas to approach a stop you can hear just  ever so little bit of what sounds like rocker arm clatter.  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:

I quit!

Are you sure the lifter isen't an exhaust leak? :dunno: Other wise... lots of oil pressure?
For the alternator/charging issue... I ran a wire from the alternator right to the battery, gauge is steady as a rock now! :2thumbs:

The carb.... if it ain't a Holley type, I'm lost?

could be worse my 3 year old son popped my truck into gear while we were loading the boat on the trailer today. did you know a 95 ext. cab dakota will float for a good while and boy is it tough, water over the seat bottoms and it fired up and drove us home!!! he is fine too just scared him when the water came in. one helluva a way to wash the carpet and seats.  cell phone is ruined but he is fine and the truck runs so small price to pay.

Bigs as much as we like everything to be perfect it isn't. And unless our old Mopars have been 100% restored new those kind of things just happen, sometimes even when brand new everything has been used. On the other hand............to be cruisin with your honey and SHE points out that you may have a bad lifter.............. well, my kind of gal. Your a lucky guy, ya got a great car and a great lady. Don't sweat the small stuff buddy.   :2thumbs:     I know, I know, it's still annoyning as hell.   :roflsmiley:

Totally agree about your wife that recognizes a particular engine noise as a possible lifter going bad, you won the lottery on that one!! Congrats!!

And sorry about your car woes, I have days like that and I just close the door to the garage and come back another day.

My bud has a RR and we thought a lifter was making noise. Idle it was noisy, smoothed out acceleration.

Right exhaust manifold bold was loose. Good luck.
Unless u have new wiring that old wiring connectors could be corroded or poor ground.

When was the last time u added dry gas to fuel. use Isop

Guys I just had to vent, thanks for the kind words!  There are times I just wanna drive not wrench!

Brad ... there is NO 70 GTX in your near future....   :grinno:

Jim your right, its takes a special gal to put up with a car freak and even a better one to point out problems.  :grinyes:

7199...wew glad your kid is ok that could have been a disaster!!!

I must say I'm getting a bit tired of "refixing" things. Dam old parts dealers cant wrench worth a crap!  :bricks1: Now ask me about taking something apart!  :cooldancing:

The noise really sounds like its on the right side. Thats the side I've never touched.  I'm gona check that out first and I'll be back pestering you guys for more advice! My schedule is pretty booked up till next week, but thanks for the motovation to get back at it! Maybe by tuesday (next that is)I can report on the noise.....

Yep if its a big block with original exhaust manifolds they are prone to cracking or studs worn.
