Need a Radiator
« on: June 04, 2011 - 10:39:11 PM »
My 71 340  challenger needs a new radiator and I am looking for better than stock. It runs a little too hot in traffic in the summer. Anybody have any ideas and brands--I see so many aluminum units ranging from $250-$800..it's confusing.....

Anybody use the Champion Aluminum radiators I see advertised on Moparts?

It's Just My Opinion, but if your old rad wasn't flowing like it should, a new one would be a big improvement. I would think that a new stock radiator with a fan shroud or a good electric fan should give you adequate cooling.

If you want aluminum, then get aluminum....but I don't think it would be necessary.

You said you wanted better than stock....I guess I'm saying that stock working like it should would probably be somewhat better than the 'stock' you have experienced.

Champion is the way to go..  no need to spend a lot of money.  It dropped right in and works GREAT!

I bought mine from a Mopar guy in Mereno Valley (Riverside)  Email Craig Durham at craigibc@yahoo.com

Or call 760-267-1301

I got an email response at 10PM... 5 minutes after sending a note to him.  He was working on his Mopar.  It shipped the next morning.

i haven't had the time to assemble it yet i am going to bolt the fans to the shroud then bolt the shroud to the rad. it will need something to seal the top and bottom of the shroud. i also ordered a thermostatic switch from summit to control the fans hopefully i can get it installed friday.

I think I will order the Champion 3 row and use the stock fan setup and see how that works. I guess I could always go to electric fans later if I decide to. Thanks for the help.

i had just the rad with a stock fan last year ran great good and cool. then a 440source water pump that was nearly new with just driving around the yard time on it. took a dump on me warped the shaft due to bad bearings made the fan wobble and gouge a huge hole in a week old radiator. that was the last of there products i have and will buy. this time i went with the fans and shroud to get away from the stock fan.

I can't blame you after that experience!
