Cooling Issue, waterpump?
« on: June 07, 2011 - 08:30:55 PM »
Hey guys, I've been having trouble cooling issues with my 73 Cuda that has a 440 in it.  I recently put in a shroud and new thermostat, but the car still overheats fairly quickly. Just the other day I decided to see how well the coolant was flowing through the radiator.  So,I started the car up and took off the rad cap.  After about 10 minutes, the coolant had still not started flowing and was simply sitting still in the radiator.  I went to turn the car off and by the time I did, the coolant started pouring out of the radiator as the car was overheating.

Is it safe to assume that since the coolant wasn't flowing at all that I need a new waterpump, or is there something else I should look into first. Thanks in advance, Mike

did the water move before the new thermostat? i have never seen a pump that wouldn't flow coolant. might just be a really stopped up radiator.

First thing I thought of also. You could try removing the thermostat just to see if the flow returns. If not, then I would have the radiator checked.
