Shell Rotella T 15/40 still has 1200 ppm of Zinc.  Nice and cheap also!

Anyone have a site that shows the zinc content of these oils for comparison?

All I see are links to the Bob's the Oil Guy site, too much reading for me.  Is there a Zinc Content Chart for Dummies?

This stuff looks pretty good, and I can get it locally.

After some more research I have decided to go this route.

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_TB-Zinc-Plus-Engine-Break-In-Oil-Additive-(16-oz-)-Lucas-Oil-Products_7660006-P_N2049_T%7CGRP60033_____

Lucas additive has 35,000ppm Zinc, just need 4oz (1/4 bottle) to bring regular oil up to >1200ppm.
I can pick it up locally at Advanced Auto for about $12 (normally $14 but if you order it online, they always have a 20% off)

Now an oil change will be <$20 with the filter included.

That is the historical levels of good oil.  If you are running very high pressure valve springs, then I would consider adding a supplement

I did a few calculations, and 4oz of additive to normal oil with 800ppm Zinc will bring it up to >1600ppm   :2thumbs:

For what it is worth I was told that after market additives were not as effective as the additives that are blended into the oil. That came from a Brad Penn rep

My motor was just rebuilt (July 2011) and the rebuilder recommended Shell Rotella T 15w40 and half a bottle of Comp Cams Engine Break In Additive (6 oz) for each oil change.

I use the Valvoline Racing oil.

Wish I had the link but a guy on another forum paid to have an independent company test a few different oils and the VR-1 came out very well for those of us with flat tappets. I can get it locally and its not insanely expensive.

Anyone use Mystik or Royal Purple? The guy who had my car before me swore by Mystik.   Matt

I used to use royal purple and it seemed ok, although it did make my car run differently (almost like it had to work a little harder than it used too). Before that I always used mobil 1, just wanted to give the royal purple a try. I'm back to mobil 1 now. There is a guy around here that races professionally and he was talking to me about royal purple vs mobil 1 one time. He said he has never had an engine fail using mobil 1, but he has with royal purple. That was good enough for me lol.
