Metro vs. Soft Seal
« on: June 10, 2011 - 11:41:17 PM »
After installing the Metro trunk weatherstrip, I looked at it thinking to myself...

"It sure is thick, hope it works!"

Well it didn't!  :swear:
My trunk lid stood up a 1/4" all the way around preventing me from final blocking.

Just received the Soft Seal and I can already tell it is much thinner and shouldn't create trunk lid setting/alignment issues.

Thought I'd throw this out to pre warn others.

Same here... I installed Metro and had to remove it.  Went with Soft Seal and it worked great.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I got my trunk seal from Year One which I think is supplied by Metro.  It fits great, being only slightly "fatter" than the 41 year old one I pulled off.  Maybe Year One uses someone other than Metro for their trunk seals. I was weary of a potential problem because I had recently been to Fenders and Fins and they were having trouble with a "fat" trunk seal.  I don't know who supplied that one.  PK

I have both now so I can take pics and show a comparison.
When I get back tonight I'll show them how they compare against each other.

Here's the pics,

Quite a difference in durometer and shape,

Using tape, I put on the weatherstrip. This way I can re use it. The trunk still needs a slight adjustment. It's way better  than it was before with the Metro.

I've heard of people taping cardboard to the trunk lid where the weatherstripping hits it.  When the lid is closed, it will over compress the seal.  After a few days, the cardboard is removed and the trunk should shut much better.

My car was blocked with the weatherstripping inplace.  Unfortunatly, the weatherstripping was the same as the pictures above...incorrect for 73.  Once I find the correct one(If I can find the correct one) I may have to use the cardboard trick.

The Softseal; although it looks thinner is height, seals very well on my trunk lid.
Passed the water test.

Softseal is an excellent product.

DMT makes/sells a trunk seal that is supposed to be correct regarding durometer at least; not sure about the profile though.  Everything I have purchased from them has been top-notch stuff.
