I had a nicer 73 original 340 rallye and only got 16000 out of it and that was when the price was on the way down. Way too much for the car. They did not put 383's in them in 73? Clone car?
It was originally a 340 Rallye car, but the motor was long gone when he bought it. I wouldn't call it a "clone", just adding a big block where none preexisted. I'm sure for an increase in price, he could be persuaded to put the 440+6 and 5 speed in it that he has laying in the garage.
I think NADA has it's place with cars that have not been restored, but I don't think that the people at Kelly's BB take into account just how expensive Mopars are to restore to "like new" condition. Heck, I'm scared to think what I have into mine...but I never plan to sell it. I don't take NADA as the gospel when I look at restored cars, too many variables when it comes to the quality of the resto. Sure I could find a car, cut a bunch of corners and slap a coat of Maco paint on it with some "good enough" body work and get a decent price out of it. But to me quality is where it is at. My dad and me have too much perfectionist in us. Honestly...it's a really nice car. I think you'd still be way ahead of the resto price game with that car as it sits.
What is the other project?
He has another pair of Challengers that he wants to finish up. 1970 340/4speed and a 1971 440/auto R/T. Too many cars...not enough storage space.
Good thing all the neighbors are "car poor" and have room in their garages for everything. People just keep finding 'em and telling him about 'em.
