New Member 1970 Challenger 383 4 speed

Hi all, im new to these fourms but old interest for american muscle. I recently bought this 1970 challenger and want to restore it at my own paste. i included pic for my new car and was hoping for good addvice from the experts like where do i start or if i should just take it to restore the car . like i said i have no experience with these cars but i am willing to learn i appericaiate all advice thanks for your time

Welcome to the site.  Are you going to keep it a 4 speed car or convert it back to auto?

All original baby and this is an original 4 speed I ran the vin on it what you see in the pic the previous own had a b body tranny were he cut it I got a e body tranny for it so it can be all original and plus a musle car not manual there's no beauty to it that's what my dad always told me

The grill and trim rings for headlight look like they are in great shape, need a new voltage regulator, body is real straight you got lucky floorpans look good maybe some cancer around the drain plugs, Keep everything in marked ziplock bags, nuts, bolts, connectors everything. Front valence needs TLC or replace, You got lucky she is in Fine!! Shape,.. Hows the trunk pan? 6 position seats, 3 speed wiper motor, Don't see rot outside of window trim from pics,.. Nice project man your scored good. :wow: :2thumbs:

If she is numbers matching depends on the quality of the restoration when complete, Id say 35 to 40 grand if done relitively right and cheap with you doing most the work yourself a oldschool freind who is knowledgable helps I was lucky to have a few in the family. Pick thier brains and there are many here that will let you have some grey matter!!

wow thanks alot I really apperiate it you just broke it all down for me well I got the front and rear valance also got 440 engine and e body tranny I was thinking of getting a hemi style hood idk were to start idk what to start doing if you can advice me withany infothank you really made me relaxed I feel like I got a good deal

You can purchace the metal from AMD, goodmark , search auto swapmeets at your local exposition center, check craigslist daily for your area for 1970 challenger, word of mouth guys here sell stuff all of the time. I would start first buy stripping all parts, bagging and tagging the car parts like I mentioned make reassembly esier and time management better. Looks like you got space for a rotisserie they can be purchased or made. when you are down to the body strip it with aircraft stripper to the metal and then clean several times with solvent after water neutralizing then do the neccesarry body work. You may want to collect all of the needed parts first or work as you go. I am not doing rotisserie but helped my father in law with his cuda a little bit. He made his own rotisserie . Do the same with the 440 dissassemble , bag tag, stripper to the metal then nuetralize water nuetralizes , pressure wash the block and then dry with compressed air . Paint with high temp hemi orange or chrysler orange paint as the block will fash rust quick!! I would do the machine shop work before soon after dissassembly have block tanked and tested, crank and cylinder bores bored and honed if neccessary ( if it has Taper or lip at the top of the cyclinder bore if over 7 thousandths wear ithink bore up ) I may be wrong but i read somewhere that a standard 375 block recommend only boreing to 20over. HP block had more nickel in the block and can go up to 60 over. Not sure if this is horsehunch have heard they are all the same casting just differ internals. Phew!!! did i get it all.

You could also build a booth and media blast recommend getting a sand blast cabinet for smaller parts. You may want to use a sander but dont use too heavy a grit.
