Mopar Performance Intake Manifold
« on: June 13, 2011 - 03:09:47 AM »
Does anyone have any input on a P5153525 mopar Performance dual plane intake for a 440? Right now I am running a Torker 440 which everyone says is junk including the Edelbrock guy. My motor is slightly better then stock. I would like to be able to close the hood with the original air cleaner also. I am debating between the original cast iron, Edelbrock performer or the Mopar Performance. I have not had the cast iron one on since 1981 but I remember not liking it at the time.

Don't get the Performer...it's worse than the stock one.

The Holley street dominator is what was recommended to me. I like it works great. Air cleaner fits too.

The manifold that you mentioned (P5153525) is the Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold.  Exactly the same manifold, except it says 'Mopar' and 'Wedge', instead of 'Performer RPM'.  Many people use the Performer and Performer RPM, and are very pleased with them.

As you can imagine, your satisfaction with a manifold depends on your intended usage, and the total system of manifold, cam, heads, exhaust, and so on.  Your Torker 440 is certainly not considered 'junk' by people who race them, where a single-plane performs well - It doesn't start really coming on until after 3500rpm.  But, if you're cruising on the street at 1500 or 2000 rpm, you wouldn't be very happy with it.  The Mopar manifold you referenced is rated for 1500-6500rpm.

For what it's worth, that Mopar manifold is what I selected, to go with my stock iron heads and .490 lift cam and TTI headers.  My car isn't yet running, so I can't give any 'real world' feedback, but the combo was suggested by my engine builder.

stay away from the Eddy performer intake , it will cost you power , the factory iron intake is better , the mopar part used to be a copy of the original intake in alum

the regular performer is junk unless your not looking for performance. the performer  rpm will do just fine and even better with a good select cam . i am on the other side of the street with not likeing the performance of the holley . if your going that route then i would bolt on the team g . imop

Yes, it used to be. The part number that the OP referenced WAS an aluminum version of the stock manifold.  But now, that same Mopar part number is a Performer RPM, which is a good manifold for most street use.

mopar12372, what exactly did you dislike about the Street Dominator? I've heard nothing but good things about it.  Thinking about switching to it from my high rise intake for better street use

i like the power band / torque curve on the performer rpm  you can bolt a proform 850 make adjustments and have a smoother off idle to 1500 all the way to 6500 rpm . if want more you add a open 2 in spacer . single plane manifolds tend to load up on the street  like the holley . wich means every thing has to be dialed . the single plane manifold if i was to go old school like the holley i would find a team g  for the 440 . i like the power from this manifold on the 440  but you need a hood scoop like a 6 pack ect. the 383 team g needs runner work wich is in the moparperformance engine book .  the holley will fit under the hood though , low  single plane manifolds tend to have reversion. the newer eddie manifolds i noticed to be taller and the ports are adjusted just right . wich means their less likely to have that problem but you give up some bottom end torque as will any single plane expecally how tall the eddie manifolds are . for me i like  11 1/2 comp eddie heads or 440 source  heads voodoo 6305 cam  performer rpm 440 .

The Street Dom is still one of the highest HP intakes across the power band & will add hood clearance ove most intakes , for racing & high RPM there are a number of good high rise single plane intakes , the RPM is ecellent to but sits higher than the SD

So what y'all are saying is that the eddy has a higher power output than the SD? But is a little taller... right?
I'm sure that both would be much much smaller than the high rise I have now (Which scrapes the bottom of my hood already).  I don't do much drag racing, mainly street use, so I like the idea of more torque in the lower range.  I'll mainly be racing from light to light.   Also, I will be sticking with just a 4 barrel, no six pack here, so simple is better for me, but I want the most power I can get on a budget all the while keeping good street-ability.

My 440 is a mess right now to say the least.  Swapping for a dual plane intake (Im leaning at SD) and a 750 holley with vac secondariness I hope will make my motor run a little better.  Maybe give it a little more power too.  Thanks for the info guys!
