My policy is through Grundy.  Not all collector car insurance companies insure project cars...Grundy does.  That's why I went with them.  I needed to get the car insured before it went to the bodyshop.

They do require you to store the car in a locked garage and there are some restrictions on driving.(aren't supposed to drive the car to work)  Once the car is on the road, I'll do some price comparisons and see who has the best value.

I have Grundy already, I guess I want to know is filing a claim hard? Do they just take care of you or do they try to make you jump through hoops?

I've had them for over 10 years now, but I never had to file a claim.

I'm not helping, am I?   :walkaway:

But from time to time talking with them on the phone to add a car etc., very nice PR, courtious and informational.   :2thumbs:

What i know of them ....

1 I do not have them, yet.
2 they require an approved garage
3 you tell them the value that you want to insure the car for, they have somone look over your car, and agree, dissagree, etc.
4 no limitation on milage driven
5 hell of a lot cheaper annually than Major insurance companies.
6 from what I hear, your car is damaged, they pay.

I've got the Challenger insured for $30,000 and it costs around $300 a year.  There is no miliage limitation but you can not use it as a daily driver.  You are not supposed to drive it to work.  I just sent in two pictures of the car...no one ever came out to look at it.

I use Grundy and there's a lot to like.  The cost is insanely low, little over a $100 a year for the Barracuda valued at $12.5k.  I'll probably up that soon as I've put some decent money into it since I bought it 1 1/2 years ago.  The bad, very limited use.  You have to sign a form that says you won't run errands in your car!!  I talked to one of their reps and asked what constituted an errand.  I asked like going to a drug store?  Yes, that isn't allowed.  I asked what about driving to the parts store, he wasn't quite sure how to answer that.  Basically, to be technically within the limitations your trip has to be 'hobby related' whatever that means.  I think they have a good reputation so they must be reasonable on this, but I worked for an insurance company back in the 90's and basically they legally can deny any claim if these type of limitations aren't followed to the letter, so buyer beware.

I was out enjoying my ride, I was going to the 24hr car wash, and the jerk in the truck hit me while I was turning around at the drug store.  I was just hobby riding...

How about Heacock, any know anything about them?
I've had State Farm collectors car insurance for many years, never made a claim.  But I've been uncomfortable with the stated value coverage and want to get agreed.
I have always heard good things about Hagerty, and got a quote a few months ago which I was happy with, but hadn't pulled the trigger. Recently an insurance broker contacted me and I asked him if he handled Hagerty, he did, and got me a fresh quote.  And the quote was about $100 more than the one I'd got recently!
Now that I have 2 rare valuable cars out in my garage, I have to do something different than SF, but I figured I will shop around before I jump at Hagerty.
I requested a quote today from Grundy and also Heacock.  Interested in feedback before I make the switch, assuming one has better rates than my Hagerty quote.

My quote from Heacock was about double what I am paying through Grundy.

I got quotes from 3 companies recently for my 3 vintage Challengers, and Heacock was the least expensive.  With one car at 70K, one at 50K, and my T/A project at 25K, I was quoted close to a grand at Grundy with zero deductible, around 900 at Hagerty with 1000 deductible, and 787 from Heacock with zero deductible.
I wish I had some reports from Heacock customers if they are good with claims.  I've always heard good things about Hagerty, but if Heacock treats their customers well, I will certainly chose them.

I doubt you would have any problems with Heacock.  They've been around a while, and I doubt that would be possible in this business if their service wasn't good.  I'm just a bit baffled at the pricing.  I'm not kidding when I said they were double what I am paying to Grundy, but that quote was over a year old, so maybe things have changed.

I use Grundy. You have to sign a form that says you won't run errands in your car!!

I've been with Grundy for 9 years now.  Never had to sign any kind of form like that.
