FWIW they had the grilles at Carlisle

900 unpainted but complete and 1200 painted complete.  Looked good to me.

Putting my hands on them Thursday they felt a little brittle.  One vendor had a broken one on display and said it was broke during shipping.  Overall I'm sure they'll sell very well, however keep with the originals whenever possible.  Nice originals were selling around $1,000 and complete refurbished grilles were about $1,500.

Also, rumors were a few fitment issues will need to be addresses before they can be brought to market.  Overall it's fantastic that Metro is trying to fill a much needed void in our hobby, but I do not think it will affect the originals as much as I originally thought.

You mean originals/refurbished??? at that price???  :eek2: How can I get a hold of them. Heck Originals I've seen lately are no lower than $2,500 with cracks and such.

Thanks,
Tom

I picked up two originals on this trip.  One un-restored and the other completely restored.  That's how come I posted the prices.  Both sellers were "asking" for much more, but I made offers and they took it.  They are out there and I'm sure there will be many more as the repops keep the prices of the originals in check.   We went through the same thing with 70 cuda and challenger grilles.  Good originals should always cost more compared to repops, but $2,500 is way to much IMO.

Thanks Cody,
I hope the repos help the originals come down on price. $2,500 is too high IMO too.
Let me know if you want to get rid of one of those originals.

I took a look at a couple of them at Carlisle and wasn't real impressed. The two issues that I saw for starters is on the smooth silver cheese grater D openings was not the right color and way too shiny. One grille in particular had this silver paint starting to crack along the vertical line. The second was the arc of the straight vertical side on the D openings were not true radiuses, but more like a series of vertical bars that made up the radius. Once you see it, you can't stop noticing it. It would take filler, sanding and refinishing of the six sockets to get rid of those issues.

Ok, here is a picture of a grille that I restored. The D channels were shot with grille silver. You can see the difference between the two pictures of the color difference. The repops have more of a chrome glossy look.

The angle of the repop picture doesn't show what I have described. So, I took and drew vertical lines on my picture. Think of the spaces as flatter as it is turning. That is about the best way I can describe/show what I am talking about.

I have no idea how they will fit. What I am describing doesn't mean that they are not usable, but depending on the person, may need some work before installing. It would be a nice option if they were offered unfinished.

Hmmmm, I didn't make it to Carisle this year to check them out. My guess is ,Maybe this is the reason they are $900 ea ?  :feedback:

I believe I looked at the same restored grill that you bought . Watched the guy unpack it  He had it sitting under a tent by his motorhome . Two years ago I bought a bunch of little  ideas off of him He is a very nice man who does great work .
It was hard for me to walk away from that grill without buying it You got a very nice piece at a great price hope you get alot of use and enjoyment  out of it .

Feedback would be nice ref current availability and the actual fit etc.  The last word I read in this post was a test fit was to be conducted near the end of June when a test fit grill was being sent to someone here for a test  fit

Its funny how much momentum this product had before it was seen at Carlisle.  Im hoping the item will still be avaialble with a quality fit
