another lower control arm bushing question
« on: June 15, 2011 - 10:42:31 PM »
I just did a search in the suspension catagory and couldnt find an answer.  So here goes.  I am replacing my LCA bushing with poly ones from hotchkis.  I pushed out my pins, and and removed the bushings.  I blasted the LCAs and welded  in stiffing plates
and added sway bar mounts from hotchkis.  Paint is done.  Now I need to install the bushing and pins.  I understand that I should instal the bushing into the LCA first, and then press in the pin.  Question is where do I add the grease to prevent squeeks?  Between the pin and bushing or between the bushing and LCA?  Do I need to add grease to the pin where it goes into the K frame?
My search has confused me a bit too.  I didnt remove any sleeves from the LCA or the pin.  The bushing is just poly, no  sleeve.  The bushing slides onto the pin with little force but will need to be pressed into the LCA.  Do I need some special pins for the poly bushing like I have read, or will the stock one work?
Thanks for any advice you guys can give me.  I know there is a thousand LCA questions, but I didnt find what I was looking for.  Jordan

I put a bit of grease in both places...further, I decided to get the greasable pins which will renew the grease between the pin and the pushing...but not the bushing and sleeve.

It is not difficult to push the pin into the poly bushing.  No need for a press

The grease goes between the pin and the bushing. No grease is required on the pin going into the K-Frame. I went with greasable pins from Firm feel , I still had to machine a ring around them so the grease gets to all the "splines" in the bushings I got also from firm feel. The bushing I just pressed into the LCA by hand and the pins I tapped in with a rubber hammer. The stock pins usually have the sleeves still attached to them when you press them out so they should work. Hope that helps?

So Brad, for those FF urathane LCA bushes, you leave the old rubber bush outer in the LCA right? or does that come out as well and the new Urethane bush replaces the entire inner, rubber and outer of the old?

Looking for the right grease for poly also, the ones suggested here is not available in Sweden. Anyone of theese I can use?

Can I use the same grease on other than poly parts?

According to this, the correct grease is very important:

I used this from memory
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Finish-Line-Premium-Grease-with-Teflon-16oz-Tub-/261874344596?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3cf8ed6294

its a white bike chain grease, super sticky, I have had it on all my poly bushes and bar mounts now for over twelve months, have not had to re grease and not sqeaks, I have just inspected my rear bar link bushes and theay are as I installed them new, still greasy, and shiny poly so no abrasive wear etc
