A common problem with the aftermarket fuel tanks is they don't have the small expansion tank, so then must be careful parking the car just after filling the tank.  Many folks drive the car 10 miles or so after filling to leave some expansion room.

Does your car have the vapor separator on the shock x-member?  If it does, you need the 72-74 style tank that has the four tubes coming out the FRONT side of the tank.  Those tanks DO NOT have an extra expansion tank inside them...even from the factory.  That is the job of the vapor separator on the shock x-member.

If your car has the large tube in the trunk on the passengers side, then you need the 71 style tank that has the tubes sticking out the SIDE of the tank.

I got my Challenger tank from RockAuto.  They list a 72 Cuda tank for $183.  It's a Spectra tank which is one of the good ones.  The tank came in less than 2 days.  I was shocked at how fast it arrived.

You can look on your VIN sticker on the door to see when your car was scheduled to be built.

If you have your old lock ring for the sending unit hang onto it. I know the ring that comes with the spectra tank from Rockauto is thinner than the stock ring the spectra tank itself is good it`s just the ring that sucks. You may have fuel leaking from around the sending unit if you try to use it. I think someone here once posted a link where to get a good ring maybe someone who knows where to find one can post it again?

I just checked .... the tank is a Spectra for the 73 Challenger with the 4 vent tubes ... it is a very nice one.
