I want retractable 3-points in the rear of my 70 Cuda. Anyone use belts that are easy to come by at the salvage yard? What kind did you use and do you have any pics to share?

I want some as well. I'd be nice to have my kid's car seat use a 3 point instead of only a lap belt. Just wasn't a popular option back in the early 70s I guess.

There are pictures of an OEM install and the engineering drawings floating around. I'm pretty sure I have them archived and I'll dig around for them. I think the biggest PITA will be the anchor point and, depending on where the anchor point is, the pass through into the cabin.

Same project for me now. Did you found the pics?

I found a 3-point belt to install here in Germany. The only problem now is, where to put the anchor point. Have had a look underneath the rear side of the headliner. I think I have to weld a nut there.

I still need to work on that. I think I will use belts from the inside out. Mount the roll mechanism`s in the center under the package tray and use the slots for the rear defogger vent to guide the belts.

Many thanks. The engineering drawing looks very interesting. The other version through the rear defogger outlets too, but this is strange, as all 3 point belts come from the outside of the car, not from the middle. Maybe I will mount a retractable in position of the circle Y. I will let my brain work for a while...

Perfect timing. had just bought a set of belts on ebay to do the same. I bought a belt assembly out of a 2008 Subaru Impreza sedan, middle rear seat. This assembly bolts to a flat package tray on a stock Subaru, like an E body. I am planning on running the belt through the defrost vent, and drilling two holes where needed, then welding some huge fender washers around the holes on the bottom of the tray to reinforce the mounting points. I was then going to use the stock mounting points in the floor. We only have one kid, so I am seating him in the middle. I will hopefully send pics to this thread when done.

I have been inspired by the engineering drawing. I will try to install the front setup in the rear. I know, the retractor cannot be installed in the rear, but I can use the short non retractable part from the lap belt. But before I will try to install the "Maxi Cosi" in the rear with my current front belts, especially the front shoulder belt.

Let's see. Many options traveling the brain...

I agree, it looks darn near perfect. I've not yet found a US source for the under shelf retractors. The ones mentioned on dodgecharger are from Australian or EU based companies.

This is the belt I will be usibg. The only drawback I see is the buckle looks too modern for an old car

Yes, that's the problem for me too. Yesterday I got a complete front set, without the retractors next to the seats. I will mount the shoulder belt like in "Circle Y" in the drawing above. And the double belt/buckle replaces my single one in the middle like in "Circle Z". The existing lap belt stays like it is on the outside of the bench.

So I will keep the original look, even if it is not original. Now let's find or better make 2 of the reinforcing assy's "E" in the drawing. If anyone has an idea, I'm open.
