73 Challenger Door Handle Question
« on: June 23, 2011 - 07:33:57 AM »
I have a question on door handles, sucks to say I had my car in a local car show, well some time when I must have turned my head, someone broke my door handle, did not notice this until I was leaving the show. So I ordered a Challenger replacement handle, listed as Challenger Only, well I received yesterday, and this one is chrome, and the inside area behind the handle, where your fingers go in, is flat black? now my original handle is all chrome? any comments to if this is correct or?

Mine are like Brad's.  I guess this is proof that not all repro door handles are created equal.

I'll look again tonight, they may be closer to a flat dark gray. So would the originals have come in both all chrome, and partial chrome, with some painted? What is factory correct?

The recessed area on my OE handles are not shiny chrome but a darkish silver.
Not sure how the color is applied but I don't think it's paint, probably the metal has been blasted somehow.

Well, had the car for some 28 years, and mine have always been all chrome during that time, so now I guess I'm changing out both LH & RH Sides, good thing I purchased a pair. I wonder now if there were two options, and a all chrome was a special order. My mirrors are chromed too, where I seen others body color. I'll get some pics together maybe by Friday. Thanks

I bought new handles from Dales Cuda shop and inside is painted argent.  I always remembered the handles being shiny inside.  I had a look at the original handles and they were chrome.  Then I looked up inside the handle.  There was argent paint visable up where your fingure can't reach.  Over they years, the paint just wore off.  They should be painted.  Just make sure your replacements are Challenger handles and not Cuda ones.  Some places sell handles that they say fit both cars but they are accually Cuda handles.

What, specifically, is the difference between the handles?  is there a curve to them?

We had a thread on this one is concave, one is convex ... and was there a flat version as well (or incorrect version)

I have a 73 Challenger and I too can verify that the original door handles are painted dark gray / argent inside. Some of it has worn over the years, but it is definitely there and not chrome.

I am not sure my wife's 73 has correct handles.  there are old ones in the trunk, indicating they may have been changed out... i swear they curve incorrectly
