Weather and work finally aligned and I was able to give the Challenger a much needed wash and wax.

Still swamped at work, but I found some time for the car today.  I decided to try and chase down a rattle I had coming from the rear.  The original plan was to get a camera under there with the rear end jacked up and see if I couldn't reproduce the rattle.  I got the car all set up and before I even put the camera under it, I found the problem.  Turns out the passenger side exhaust tip was sometimes banging against the valance.  All it took was a little adjustment of the hanger to space it better and the rattle is gone!

While I was under there I also adjusted the shocks another click.  I've been working on adjusting the QA1s and the car almost has the feel I want.  Getting adjustable shocks was definitely a good idea.  I went with just single adjustable,  double would probably be even better but that's probably overkill for me.

I bought some replacement key blanks off eBay but was surprised when they arrived and look different than the one set that I got with the car.  Here you see them side by side.

So now I am just curious to which style would have been correct for a 1974.  I did some searching and didn't have much luck in finding a definitive answer.  I'm the 4th owner so the keys I have could easily have been replacements picked up along it's way to me.

Anyone know?

Not a definitive answer for you, but, all the keys I have from a 74 and two 73 were like your ebay keys. They may not have been the original keys though. I was not the original owner.

Hi Jamiez,

same on my car. But the guys who mounted it, just made some self-made metal hangers (only short before the end tips) and I cannot adjust it. Can you please post some pics of the hangers? Maybe they are different on a 74, but to get an idea.

I will redo my complete frontend with Hotchkis torsion bars and leaf springs and Koni red shocks. While there, they also redo the exhaust hangers to fix the problem...

Many thanks.
Thomas

Hooked the mic up, slapped a 74 rear plate on the car and ran it in the garage a bit.  I haven't had the chance to run her in a while...so she spit a lot of water.
Audio Test

Over all I'm not particularly satisfied with the mic I've been using so I'm looking into more options, this is kinda a base line, but I know how everyone loves to hear engine noises.
There's still a little rattle from the driver's side pipe so I'll probably need to adjust the hanger a bit on that side as well.

Speaking of which here is a picture of the hanger.

...all I did was change the L bend at the top of the hanger to move the tips down and away from the valance.

Do you have any weep holes in the back of the mufflers? I keep forgetting to do this on mine. If you put an 1/8" hole in the back of the muffler...down low by the crimp...the water will leak out and won't sit inside. We did this at the muffler shop I used to work at. It extended the life of the muffler quite a bit.

Just looked at my original keys.  They are just like the blanks you bought.

Picked up a Zoom R16 off eBay.  This lets me run multiple mics at the same time and then I used Garageband/iMovie to put it all together.   It's just a short cruise around the neighborhood, but I think I got the audio just about right.
