Just sat in a new 392 this morning.
« on: June 25, 2011 - 04:30:40 PM »
The wife and I just got rid of her 02 Sunfire this morning.  It had 194,000 miles on it.  It still ran fine but was starting to make some front end noises.  She bought the Pontiac before we met so it was time I got her into a Chrysler.  We ended up buying an 08 Sebring with 50,000 miles on it.  The Sunfire didn't have power windows or locks and it didn't have cruise.  This Sebring is a definate step up.

Anyway, while we were waiting there in the show room, I started looking at a new burnt orange SRT-8 392 edition they had.  That's a sharp looking car!  It had gray stripes running accross the top of the car like the old SS Chevelles.  I can't say that I was very impressed with those stripes though.  I don't know if they are supposed to have a texture to them but they looked very bumpy and it kind of detracted from the rest of the car IMO.

I hadn't sat in a new Challenger before today.  I hear a lot of complaints about the interiors on them.  I don't know why...I thought it was very nice.  The seats felt great and the shifter was in a good location.  The back seat was nonexistent but it's a Challenger.  If you need a back seat buy a Charger.  It didn't feel like a big car from the inside.  I'd love to own one but the $48,000 sticker price is out of my price range.

Speaking of Chargers, I saw a new Charger up close for the first time too.  I was not a fan of the new Charger or 300 from the pictures I'd seen but man they're nice in person.  I also looked at an 06 300C at another dealer.  That thing was loaded.  I think I may have to trade in the Durango for that 300.  Can you really get 25mpg on the highway with the 5.7?  It's not great but it still beats the 17/18 max I can get with the Durango.

Personally I love the new Chall , very comfortable !! They handle & stop well too , I spent about 10 hrs straight in one & never got uncomfortable + as you say they do get great milage , the one I drove was a 5.7 6 spd , the milage seemed about the same in 5th or 6th even though the Rpm really drops in 6th

I had an 04 magnum with the 5.7 and we got about 24 on the highway with it. That MDS really helped with mileage. On the other hand I got rid of the car because it was basically falling apart from the day I got it and I was really sick of sinking more money into it.

Also be aware that the magnums/chargers/300cs are renowned for having troublesome suspensions and it can end up costing big bucks to fix them. There are quite a few people out there that rebuild their front suspension every 3 years. Just something for you to keep in mind.

I will plead ignorance here. Does a new challenger share the same suspension as the charger/magnum/300?

Mine handles quite well, and the ride is comfy.

burdar,

I know the price of new SRT/8's is steep, but horse power is why we have old Challengers. I have the S/E version of the new and I love it.

I bought a Diablo Predator to re-flash the computer. With 89 octane gas, I am getting 29MPG highway now. More responsive too when you step on it.

I'm just saying, there is room to play even if you have a six cylinder version. The back seats aren't as bad as the originals either.

Come on board.    :poopoke:

I love mopars...just wish they would have done more with the v6 to beat out the camaro and stang v6s.......and the v8s are really sort of out of reach for an average income IMHO.

Not like the old days when the muscle cars were close in price to the more sedate models.

That was one of the deciding points when my wife was shopping a couple months ago for a car between an 11 Stang V6 and the Challenger V6 and Charger v6.....the Challenger v6 was more costly.  I drove a v6 Challenger and the v6 Stang and its a marked difference....I think the weight makes a huge difference.    IMHO, the Challenger wins on looks/style, but the Stang is still a beautiful car and is quicker.... I couldnt believe the difference in quickness.   :2cents:

I get 27 mpg on the highway in my 08 5.7 litre Charger and the 2011 V6 Challengers have 300 plus horsepower now.

Not as far off of the rest of V6 pack anymore.
