    Dang little rodents got into my car. Just when I think things are getting better, something sets me back again. The little critters have ate a hole in my headliner above the visor. They also got into the front seats and made nests in both of them. I haven't found any other damage so far, thank goodness. But now I got to get a new headliner and install it. And find out how they got in and keep them out.

    Anyone got any good ideas? How do you keep the critters out of yours?

    I have heard that they won't chew through dryer sheets.  You could try plugging any holes in the firewall and vents with them.  Steel wool is supposed to work as well.  I assume insurance would cover the damage?

    I'll check the dryer sheet trick. Maybe it will help.  :thumbsup:
    They must have come in though the cowl vent. Thats the only place I could find they could have got in.

    I'm going to try an animal repellent and see if that helps too.

    As far as insurance, this car does not have collector car insurance, and making a claim would be worthless since a headliner cost is less than the deductable.

    Scented bar soap is supposed to keep them out.  Put some shavings on a paper plate and put it under the seats.

    They climb up the tires. Moth balls around the tires will keep them out.

    They do make plastic bubbles to store your car in.  They come with a small air compressor that keeps it inflated.  I don't know if I've seen them in the Eastwood cataloge or if it was in another one that I get.

    Boy does your story sound familiar - I think you 're right about them coming in through the cowl vent. Close that vent and they shouldn't be able to get in through there. Also check your firewall for any missing plugs or openings. My car has a 4-speed and the boot around the clutch pedal rod is a little torn, so I also watched that as a possible entry point. Unfortunately for me, the mouse who got into my car chewed a small hole into the plastic cowl grille in order to get to the vent (grrrr).
    I agree with using mothballs as a deterrent. Get a box and liberally spread them under your car. It seemed to work for me.

    you`ll need a pretty big compressor to keep the bubble up when they eat through that....  :grinyes:

    A couple years ago DoNotChallengeHer suggested I use 'Irish Spring' original scent soap bars. I cut them in half and put four pieces in  the trunk, a couple under each seat and one in each air vent. Haven't seen mouse sign since. Worked so well I do the same thing for my 5th wheel. Same results. Try it!

    I was told to keep the sun visors down so they have nothing to stand on.

    I haven't had any problems other than squirrels storing their nuts on my intake manifold.    :stomp:

    I had the same problem, plug missing in trunk floor, the mice stood on the gas tank to crawl under the trunk mat.

    Haven't seen any signs of mice since I started putting Moth Balls in my car . Now only if it didn't smell like my grand mothers closet . Small price to pay I guess .


    Have you ever smelled moth balls . How did you get their legs spread ?

    Try having nuts stored in your heater box  :swear: Acouple of years ago i had my Cuda and my Dart Sport stored at a friends garage and when i went to get the cars that following spring i had found nuts and stored and shelled in boyh cars. Every once in awhile a nut will fall out on the floor in my Dart  :banghead:
