Best 3" reproduction Challenger exhaust tips?
« on: July 07, 2011 - 02:00:52 PM »
Does anyone have a recommendation on reproduction Challenger exhaust tips for a 3" exhaust?

Obviously inlet diameter will be different, but I'm looking for as accurate to original in material and appearance otherwise.

Bonus points is it's cheaper than $200. :-)

Thanks.

TTi is a good piece but is missing the inner deflector which changes the sound so all the exhaust comes out of only the one outlet , I welded deflectors into my tips !!
I do not experience with most others although I have seen some horrible repops with almost square outlets

Wooooowee! At $400, those TTIs are a bit rich for me. :-\

Does anyone have experience with PG Classic repro parts? Good quality stuff? There's a nice looking set on Ebay... from what I can tell, the only real visual difference is that the seam doesn't run through the center of each square when looking at it from the bottom... which no one will ever be. Other than that, shape and spacing between the squares looks about right.

I bought a pair of the PG Classics ones and they look pretty nice.  The welds are not the prettiest things, but you will not be able to see that once installed unless you look from the bottom.

P.G.Classic parts are from China. I have bought from them, but there is usually a compromise in the way they fit. So I'll say, not bad, but not original either.

Do you have any pictures of your welded in deflectors?

Yes ....But they are on my desktop computer which is about 20 ' from my Challenger parking in Calgary so No I cannot get them for you unfortunatly
I just cut a small plate , I welded it on the back of the two tips so it was approx 1/2 way across the pipe inlet

Starting to wonder if modifying a set of originals might be the way to go.

But not having a set in front of me, I don't know if it would work.

I guess the real question is are they 3" from bottom to top? Ie, could you cut off the original 2" inlet pipe and weld in 3"?

I know the main body tapers down to the inlet tube, but I can't tell how much.

Hope that makes sense...

Thoughts?

I bought a set of unknown make 3" all stainless tips from a guy on Ebay. He had bought them and then decided to do something different with his exhaust. Best part was the price, $150 to my door. They fit just fine, and have the deflector in them.

Funny part is, I ended up using 2-1/2" exhaust on my small block, I had to expand my exhaust pipes to get the tips to fit. The 3" inlet on the tips is necked down to about 2-1/2" just before the main body anyway. :ebay:
