I was DJ'ing at the Rt. 66 Raceway during August of '01 (2 weeks to the day before I turned 16) and my dad spotted a good starter car... my '69 Barracuda. Hadn't even started Driver's Ed yet so thoughts of having a car hadn't even crossed my mind. The guy wanted $3000 for it, talked  him down to $1800 bucks AND he delivered it to our house!!

She was Grandma Gold with a light Tan vinyl top, slant six and 904 on the column. She did have a 3.23 gear in back which was great for burnouts!! :grinyes: We tuned the car, changed belts, hoses, fluids, etc until I got my learner's permit then started driving the car. I should mention that the first time we took the car out (dad was driving), we were planning on going to a cruise night to show it off... got about a mile from home and the ignition coil crapped out!! :banghead: PUSHED the car back the mile home and fixed the problem... then I drove her through rain, sleet, snow and ice for the next 9 months.

Entered her in 1 local car show and put her in Diamonds in the Rough. Took 1st place which scored me $175 bucks to Koller Dodge (when they were still open). Bought a J&R 6 to 1 header for the slant and started attempting a Super Six conversion... that's when she ended up just coming completely apart...  :dontknow: :dontknow:

A little before and after....

1966 International Scout, no carpet, wipers didn't work going up hill,  barely a heater, Auto mechanics instructor Mr Thompson said he wouldn't trust it to the end of the street.  God I miss that thing... :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

1996 Dodge Intrepid with the 3.3,  got a ticket in that one   Got it free from a friend of the family because it had a bad tranny, dad and me swapped out a junkyard tranny and drove it for a year or so, then my brother ended up getting it.  I miss that car quite a bit...oh yah, got it just before I turned 16.

My first car was a hand me down of my brothers that dad owned. My first official car I bought with my own money was a 65 Cuda. This was in 1968 and it had a 273 and a 3 on the floor. Man did that poor little car take a beating, I almost feel sorry for it yet.  :burnout:

I was 15 and I wanted a Cuda convertible. My Dad and I couldn't find one at the time.  I found a 1 owner 71 Challenger convertible.  It was 1979 and I wanted the car bad.  I paid $2500 for it which was too much at the time.  The first owner repainted the car midnight blue because they got tired of the Plum Crazy Purple. The second week I had the car I bought a 68 New Yorker for $100.  The 4th week I had the car it had a 440 in it and I was having fun.  I junked the original 318 from my convertible with the New Yorker. The good thing is I still have the convertible and have started to restore it.

Wow, cool old thread.

My first car was my truck.  Still have it.

'94 SWB 318/5 spd overdrive.  3" suspension lift.  285/75's on it.  Bought it when I was 17.  It'll be four years this fall.

147,000 miles on it, still going strong.  Arizona truck, absolutely no rust on the body.  Some surface rust on the frame.  VERY rare for up here in WI, lol.

Thinkin about selling it now, I cant have 3 gas hogs to drive.  I need a driver.  :walkaway:

2 weeks before my 16th birthday I bought a 71 Challenger w./318 from a buddy whose dad was a used car wholesaler/retailer. He's had it for a few months and the day he brought it home I called Dibs on it. He got tired of it after a few months when his dad brought home a 70 Cutlass with a 350 Rocket.  He sold me the Challenger for $600 and I had to help hm buff out the gold paint on the Cutlass.  The mods started shortly thereafter :working:  :working:  :working:  Lift off 6 pack hood, set of X heads, 340 Cam, Headers, 727 trans & converter (all purchased used of course). I sold it about 1-1/2 later to buy my first convertible Challenger  :working:  :working:

91 Dodge Grand Caravan/17/6 cylinder

Nothing spectacular. :)

When I moved to NC, I bought a 2004 Acura TL and my parents sold the Caravan. My dad still drives his 92 Caravan.
