1972 Dodge Challenger 'GT' project
« on: July 10, 2011 - 12:22:14 PM »
Hey Guys!  I have a 1972 Dodge Challenger I bought in April of this year in Denver,CO.,, the body is really nice and rust free. I am going to install my 500 cube lowdeck which made 617 HP and over 600 Ft. lbs. in front of a new Keisler RS 5-Speed,(when it comes available this Fall/early winter),, Dick Ross at Firm feel is gonna supply the suspension components, I am welding in subframe connectors, torque boxes, skid plate. Cass Eslick is gonna supply the 8.75 with a new nodular Iron unit and built with a Torsen type geared diff, then I hope to get it running and upgrade the brakes with Cordoba units or perhaps Andy Finkbeiners big brake kit from Mancini racing. I'll post some pics as the progress happens. The Challenger will be driven from terre haute, IN. to Denver and then to Vegas and back to Indiana. (Roadtrip from hell) Eddie

I have almost completed stripping the underside, gonna re-prime then undercoat everything. I also know that the 8.75 rubber isolated rear didnt come with this car, but Dick Ross has a kit to eliminate the rubber iso junk.

Thanks for replys guys. The 'Vanishing Point' run is a roadtrip that re-creates the route that Kowalski took in the 1970 Cult classic film. We started off at the now defunt Dodge dealership in Denver, then we drove thru Green River Utah, then to Tonopah Nevada and finally to Goldfield where SuperSoul did his thing!  We had my 1970 original restored N-96 440SixPack, Tak-Pak car and my friends 1970 440 R/T Challenger. I also had my mates from England and Ireland with me. Here is a pic of our 2 R/T's from the trip in 2009 in front of the Goldfield motel in scenic sprawling downtown Goldfield!  We are going to try and make it in 2012 again!  This time my N-96 car will stay home and my '72' that I am building will be driven the entire distance. ( approx. 6,000 miles)

The stroker I built and dyno tested at my buds shop here in terre haute. I started with a thick walled sonic checked 400 block,(had to go thru 3 of them to find a good one with very thick cylinder walls), The block was precision machined with a deck plate, ARP studs and bottom end girdle,,, I tried to show the youtube vids of the engine on the dyno,,??  my channel on you tube is Sgt. Stedenko1  there are 3 vids of the beast on the dyno,,it has a Scott Brown Hyd, Roller   RAS Roller rockers    440 Stealth heads ported by me,  500  cubes  617HP and over 600 ft. lbs.    12 inches of vacum at 900  RPM's  very nice idle thats not on the ragged edge. Massive torque down low, should make a nice street engine!!  Curently waiting on Shafi Keisler and his new RS 5-Speed overdrive unit for E-Bodies due out this fall.

The dyno is a Stuska Unit. My friend is a gm guy who guessed around 530 HP when I told him hyd cam and standard port heads. He was quite shocked to see it pull over 600 HP at 5800 RPM's. MoPar baby!!

Next up is the ART torque boxes, front and rear. I am gonna wait till I get the new tranny tunnel before I weld in the subframe connectors.

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.
