New Gen 3 pc. Lite wheel (new take on Mini-lites)
« on: July 11, 2011 - 02:08:47 AM »
I just picked up the back pair of my custom built wheels. The Company is New Gen out of Corona, CA and they specialize in muscle car wheels. www.driverzinc.com
These particular wheels are their take on the Mini-lites that the Trans-Am cars of the late 60's and 70's. Most of their offerings come in 3 piece which means you can alter the wheels width and backspacing. If you bend a rim you can replace the inner or outer hoop. I'm not sure but I don't see why you couldn't swap out the centers either.
Well, love 'em or hate 'em, here are my 19X11.5 rears with 335/30-19 Nitto NT-05 tires. Front 18X9's are being built right now. These have a 0 offset.

Go-Fish---Looking good! I like them! Can't wait to see them on your car. I'm assuming you'll measure for your rear end width after the wheels/tires are mocked up? That's my plan on my Challenger.

I just ordered Fikse 3-piece FM5s from Driverz Inc. with black centers although the Fikse rims are stepped lip. 19 x 12 with 335s back and 18 x 9 275s front with the same Nitto NTO5 rubber. It'll probably be another 6 weeks before I receive them.

I figured Jon was talking about you, Wes. He was saying a customer was getting 18X9 w/275's up front. I got the same BS as you and Travis72 (18x9 / 5.5" bs, but I chose a 265 on the front.

Are you going to go with the 'black chrome' for the rest of the chrome trim? I was thinking those would look awesome with a blacked out car kind of like Aaron Beck's.

I would love to go black chrome but I haven't found anyone locally yet. If it comes down to it I will probably have Ogden Chrome do it. My idea for the car was a black paint job with lots of flattener added to the clear or PPG Hotrod Black and a custom Ferrari red AAR stripe. The AAR hood and tail would be, original to AAR, organisol. Black chrome. Too bad Black Chrome wasn't an option for the lips.

Mr. Beck actually did a rendering that was pretty close to what I want it to look like. He is the "F"ing man on the photoshop!

BS is 5.75". The rear I have in it now is a standard E body width Strange 60. If I would have had the money at the time I would have ordered the wheels first and then ordered the rear because Strange doesn't charge extra if you want a narrower housing. Now I have to pay to get the housing narrowed and buy new axles and flanges (plus pay a guy to do it all).

Thanks for the compliment but I can't say I'm the first one with the color scheme. Without knowing, a guy with a 67 Camaro got his first without me knowing it. I payed for the rears to be built and like a week later Amir's Camaro was made public. He had been keeping the build under wraps but everyone knew it was going to be a gnarly ride. His are stepped lip though. Here it is on YT

Those wheels look awesome and will look right at home with your flat paint job!!!

What's interesting is that the 3 piece Lites appear to be quite a bit different shape then mine.  My spokes have a greater curve in to the center section.  See these close ups of my rims.  Either way they look cool to me.   ;D

Travis, your version of the Lite is very similar to the old Mini-lite. I really like those. Since I was going with a 19" and that I like the exposed hardware I went the 3 pc. route. I wish I was rich. I would buy a set of regular 18X9 Lite's and shoe them with R888's just for auto-X's!
