New guy here, two Barracudas
« on: July 18, 2011 - 02:39:11 AM »
Hi,
I joined up because I was planning to ask a question about wiper motor park switches, but it seems I got lucky and things are working again after wrestling with the cams a bit.  I don't know how it got messed up but it hadn't worked right in the time I have owned it until tonight.  I now have wipers that work, vary in speed, and park at least for now.
I currently have 2 Barracudas, altogether I have owned 3 and 1 'Cuda.  The one I am working on and driving at the moment is a 71 In-Violet Convertible, 318 Slap-stick, with a white top and interior.   It has a factory cassette recorder/player (I have the original microphone as well) but it is missing the radio.  It is no cherry show car but is a beautiful machine.  I need to find some rear seat belts for it and fix the heat and A/C someday.  The heater isn't hooked up, I assume from the look of it that the control valve leaks.  The AC is missing some wires to the presure switch on the receiver/drier so I haven't tried to get it working yet.  I also need a new convertible top boot, some of the clips are broken and I ripped the vinyl trying to stretch the shrunken old thing into place.  I used to know where to get a new one but I forgot who it was, maybe Year One?  The car has been off the road for a couple of years until just last week, and it needs some very minor body/paint work to show better.  It needs quite a bit more work to be 100%.  I just recently decided to spend some time with it and drive it for a while.
My other Barracuda is a 72 B5 blue car that was a 318 3-spd car when I bought it many years ago.  It now has a 340 six-pack and a pistol-grip 4 speed behind it.  It was a fairly radical ride when I was driving it.  I have it stored in my shop waiting for its turn to rumble again.  I gave up trying to get it to pass the stupid Colorado emissions test (hate government and environmental lunacy), and just took it out once in a while for some 1/4 mile runs.  I never got the six-pack working to its potential, I still hope to get that dialed in better some day.  I missed an opportunity to get it registered when there was no emissions test, but the job situation kept me from doing it and now the stupid test is back and eeven uglier.  I might tone it down a bit and street it again someday.
I don't have hardly any pictures of my cars, I should take more.  The one I will post here is of the 71 when the paint was a little nicer and my best friend was still alive to guard the car and was allowed to slobber on the console on a hot day.  You can guess from my user name what another of my cars is.

Welcome! There's a young lady on this site who, from all accounts, can make your wiper motor like new, check the various subjects and you'll find her.

How much is her service?  There is nothing wrong with my 3 speeder other than the perty rainbow color on the motor cylinder is worn dull. I have never ripped one apart but power loss prolly has something to do with the motor brushes or contacts no longer making a solid connection due to wear, like a worn starter.

Thanks for the welcome, all!  Obviously a nice bunch of folks here.  I need to spend some money on the car before my temp job ends and I have to go back to being a miser.  They always need something, but this one just needs a few pieces to make it better.  I have always done all my own work except for front end alignments and machine work on the engines, but I am probably going to have to add paint to the list of things I don't do.  I just can't tolerate the stuff like I used to.  I was never that good at body and paint work anyway, this car deserves better.
Matt70- I'm west of Loveland, close enough to the Big Thompson river to hear the water when US34 (a mile away)is quiet.  That seems to be less and less often as time goes on.   I'm high enough above the river to not have to worry about another flood like in 1976, the year before I moved to Colorado.  The afternoon thunderstorms have been wicked this year.   There's been a couple of hail storms  that stripped tons of leaves off the trees, but fortunately no serious damage so far.   I haven't been to the Springs in a while, I dated a lady for several years that had family in Canyon City, so I have been through the Springs quite a few times.
Good to hear the smog Nazis haven't come after the folks down South of here.  I think they only did it here to expand the "emissions test area" and make Denver's numbers look better.
AARuFAST- I miss that dog.  He was one smart and talented friend.  Even took a shot from a skunk that would have nailed me for sure!  The only thing he didn't like to do with me was play with RC cars, unless I tied a dog biscuit on them!  Oh the stories...

Later!

Clay, that's a nice area up there. Not near as many storms down here yet (we need them one match and poof!) Are you going to Badimere for the Mopar nationals this weekend? I can't make it I'll be working. Post some more pics when you can. Matt

Ten years ago, you would have had to get an emissions test in Colorado Springs.
I had a hard time down there with several of my old cars and trucks.
Luckily, I met a good mechanic and didn't have a problem after that.

Now I am up in the mountains and we don't have any emissions regulations here.
Most of Colorado actually does not have emissions testing.
Denver and I think Grand Junction are the only places that retain emissions testing.

Do any of the other Colorado members have emissions testing?

Welcome to the site.  can't wait to see more pics of your cars!!
