Skunkworks Challenger is on the road!!!
« on: July 19, 2011 - 10:22:43 PM »
UPDATE!!  After 4 1/2 years my Challenger is finally on the road and made it's first car show over the weekend at Olympia's Lake Fair Car Show.  Because of rain we only had 98 cars.  This is not exactly Mopar country but there were two 70 Challengers and a 72 Cuda, a new Challenger, and a 71 Charger.  My car got Peoples Choice.  Awards are not the point---I'm just elated that I can finally drive the thing.  Many thanks to all on this site who have helped me in so many ways.  Although the car is drivable, runs great and looks great there is still work to do.  PK

I have said it before.. Man you have a beautiful car!! The lime and white really look good together. You should get high marks at most shows. Your car is a real headturner and I bet you get lots of waves, comments and offers from people to buy it when ever your out on the street. I did and mine was just a 318 and a re-buffed paint 20 footer.

Thanks for the comments guys!  This was it's first public viewing.  Tomorrow, July 21st, I'm taking it to Victoria, Canada to a WPC Regional Meet.  This will be it's first trip out of town and it's first ferry ride.  PK

Wow. The white stripe on Lime almost makes the color look completely different.

I'm really starting to love the slicktop look. Beautiful car!

The car looks great.  I'm looking for flaws but I don't see any.  Do you have any pics of the engine comp?  The Cooper Cobras are a nice looking tire.  I think the reproduction Polyglass tires look even better though.  That is the only thing I'd do to that car if it were mine.  What are you running for rear springs?  Stock height or 1+?

Beautiful car fellow Washingtonian.

HOwever, it could use a bit more rake.  I.e. either lower the front, raise the rear, or both some.

:clapping: Your car turned out awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing it in person once I get mine on the road and out to local functions.

Great comments guys!  For burdar and ragtop, my springs are stock R/T that I had re-arched.  For a time, during re-assembly it seemed it was going to be the right height.  As I added equipment and the passage of time they settled back down.  Yes, I need about 1.5 inches in the rear.  I'm thinking the addition of another leaf should do it.  You guys have any experience on this?  I will talk to the guys at Right Way as well.
On the engine compartment, I have some pictures early on but not since the car is up and running.  I'll post some when I have the time.  For now I have to load it for the trip to Victoria tomorrow.  PK

I'm liking the "slick top" look as well.  Sometime in it's life it had a vinyl top--but not from the factory, probably dealer installed.  I like the slick look so well I didn't re-attach my rear deck "Challenger R/T" or the hood call outs for "440 Magnum".  I'll leave that option open.  PK

Very, very nice Paul.  I tried adding a leaf to my other Challenger and didn't see much of a change.  I'm thinking a re-arch is in order or possibly new springs.   Best to go to a real spring shop as the ones sold after market don't seam to work.

My motor is in final assembly this week and hopefully the TA will be ready the first of August-------- just in time for the upcoming Mopar shows in Bellingham & Graham.  Hope to see you there.
