73 dash harness question
« on: July 20, 2011 - 10:34:51 PM »
I've got the dash assembly all put together and it's ready to be installed in the car.  I don't know where one connection goes.  See the picture below.  I believe it is part of the "light group" harness.  It just hangs down by the main bulkhead connector.  Does anyone have an idea where this gets connected?  Does it connect to the steering column?  I know the two long flat connectors(one white and one blue) connect to the column.  I don't have the column here to look at.

There is also a square relay with a metal bracket attached to it that hangs down as well.  Where does that get clipped to?

There is a yellow female rubber 3 hole connector that doesn't have anything attached to it by the bulkhead connector.  The original one is pretty dirty so I don't think anything was attached there from the factory.  Just want to make sure.

Finally, the white and pink wires that go to the brake light switch...what wire goes where...I assume it matters.  Thanks

The brake pedal switch has two connections.  They should be the pink and white wires.  Thanks for the help though. I can't think of anything that it should go to other then maybe the ignition key light time delay.(light group)  I don't know if that has a separate connection though.  Maybe the canister is the time delay unit?

Hey Darren,

The silver can part in your picture is the delay relay. The two yellow wires feed one to the key light as mentioned and the other to the left side light bar bulb to light the switch panel. The brake pedal switch is just making a closure from the pink (power) to white wire and polarity doesn't matter. The square relay is the four way flashers and the mounting bracket connects to the passenger side of the ash tray frame. The three hole yellow socket is just an accessory power feed for something like a rear defogger, etc.

Thanks Jim.  Maybe I'll shoot a picture of the square relay.  I've already got a round relay that attaches to the ashtray.  This one hangs down by the bulkhead connector.  I wonder if it clips onto the steering column?

The other flasher mounts to the dash framework close to the column. On the right side i think but I'm not sure. I'll look tonight if no one can confirm.

Hey Darren,

I had to check back on mine before I took it apart and the flasher by the column mounts on the brake pedal frame on the side with the same clip as on the ashtray.
