Should I keep the flat hood or go dual scoop?
« on: July 21, 2011 - 05:16:21 PM »

Hey guys, starting to clean out the garage to get this fall project started.

Car is all original, minus rear rims.... Would you change the hood while doing the body work?

If it's all original, I would be hesitant to change anything unless you plan to keep the car for years.

If you don't plan to ever sell it, then do what you like.

I've been saying for a while that in the not too distant future the rarest e-bodies will be original 6 bangers and 318s with flat hoods. They're all being turned into 440s and Hemis with shakers. Not that I'm too different  :D

That's a no-brainer, these are muscle cars, get scooped or AAR hood.  No one likes flat girls or hoods.

:iagree:
Put the original hood in the garage attic. If you need to sell later, you can say you have the original hood to go with it.  :2cents:

Your Cuda Hood is like underwear, either go commando or wear boxers! Change them often or as needed.

I say go for the dual scoops.

There is nothing like looking over that dual scoop hood.  I looks just as good from the driver seat as it does from the outside!

I for one vote for flat hood.  That is how I am leaving mine.

I would say get a new scooped hood, then get both the new and old repainted at the sametime so the shade is exactly the same. Put the original in storage/garage, and love the scoop hood. Just my  :2cents: although i know hoods can take up room. I sold my mustangs original good cause it took up room/needed the money for the challenger.

I'd keep the stocker somewhere safe in storage for the original factor, but put the hood I truly wanted onto the car. :2thumbs: (basically what I plan to do with mine when I actually get back at it)

Isn't the flat hood being re-popped? There is a reason people trade them out for the raisin bran and shaker...they look better.

I doubt that a flat hood will ever become more desirable. I'd sell to someone looking to do a shaker conversion.

It all depends on what dirrection you want to go with the car.  If you are going to do a stock restoration then the flat hood should stay.  If you don't care about originality, use the hood that YOU think looks the best.

Thanks all,  having both hoods on hand sounds like a good idea.

The one thing I don't have is the build sheet, so it may not make a difference... unless it's called out in the fender tag. ?
