1970 ---- Adjusting Door Glass (manual windows)
« on: July 26, 2011 - 04:31:05 PM »
Hey --

I am needing to tackle a door hardware and glass alignment issue on the DVR side.

1st - I have to replace all the plastic inside parts - window rattles badly and you can move the glass inside to outside about 1/2 inch.  I purchased a rebuild/refresh kit with the parts to attach the glass to the regulator and keep it in the tracks.

What is the correct way to remove the glass from the car?

2nd....
The glass also needs (in its current state) to roll up about and extra 1/8" or so higher and be slightly tilted towards in the inside of the car.  It just barely hits the weather strip - I think it needs to roll up behind the outer rubber lip so there is no way that air or water can enter.   The rear quarter windows roll up/tuck up in between the two sections of rubber in the weather strip.
I want the front glass to do the same.

I am thinking/hoping that after I replace the parts inside and the slop is gone from the window, it may line up better.

If anyone has a white paper or know sof a previous post with very good details on the process - please let me know.

As always -  all help/suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!

Bill

is there an adjustment to the up-stops (F/R)?

I need to get the window about 1/8 higher, the camber/tilt is just fine.

Yes, the up-stops are adjustable.  Loosen the bolts so the stop can slide, turn window up where you want it, tighten the bolts.  The window has just pushed the stops up to where it will stop until you readjust next time.  PK

hey all ....

sorry for not putting up pics - but the whole process took me less than one hour to do.
it is really easy to replace the hardware and re-adjust the glass.

I found this link from our forum-
http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=63290.0

it has the pages from the AIM that are related to window install/removal.
very detailed instructions....

again -
thanks for all the great feedback and ideas.

Hey Bill,

What HW is on the glass when you replace it?  I have a used piece that has some bolted to it.
I'm curious which parts can be left on the glass or did you have to slide in the blank glass and re-attach everything inside the door?

I replaced all the hard plastic pieces.

They all need to be attached before installing the glass back into the door.

Bill, I'm doing the same thing. I have been looking for the hardware kit and finding them for about $80. Did you find a better deal? Thanks,  Matt

Matt

I am nearly sure it was the same amount.  I looked at a bunch of Vendors and they are all +/- $5 bucks or so.

I think you are going to be pleasantly suprised with how easy the removal/install is.
Just take your time and don't try forcing anything.

I would do a seacrh on this forum - I found three or four really great threads.
